About the Role
This is a high-ownership attorney role at a seed-stage AI-native legaltech company, sitting at the intersection of law and technology. You will serve growing tech companies as an extension of their in-house legal team, owning commercial contract review and negotiation while also shaping the internal tooling and playbooks that power how legal services are delivered at scale. The role carries meaningful equity and real influence over the product and operations roadmap.
What You'll Do
Review and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts, advising clients on product and privacy matters.
Interpret contract terms and surface key obligations, risks, and anomalies to clients clearly and efficiently.
Operate and provide feedback on internal AI-assisted legal tooling to improve platform speed and accuracy.
Identify inefficiencies and patterns in the review process, then design and implement fixes.
Standardize recurring contract types, build review playbooks, and set quality standards.
Protect turnaround and SLA commitments while maintaining a high-quality bar.
Partner with operations and product teams to evolve how legal services are delivered as the company scales.
What We're Looking For
J.D. and active California bar membership in good standing.
5 to 8 years of law practice with significant experience supporting technology companies.
Experience as in-house counsel or sole legal counsel at a company is required.
Strong expertise in corporate, commercial, product, and privacy law; venture capital and emerging company exposure is a plus.
Comfort with or genuine enthusiasm for AI-assisted legal workflows and legal technology.
Experience building legal playbooks and standardized processes.
Impeccable attention to detail with the ability to spot risks others miss.
Strong grounding in professional responsibility and legal ethics.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous, high-ownership environments and operates with consistent urgency.
Able and willing to work in person in San Francisco full time.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $150,000 to $210,000 USD annually. The role includes meaningful equity ownership. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Location
On-site in San Francisco, California. This role requires in-person attendance and is not available on a remote or hybrid basis.
