Job Description

About the job

Location: Dallas, TX (onsite with flexible working hours)

Industry: IoT/connected hardware technology company

Position Type: Full-Time / Direct Hire

Company Size: Midsize Company

Target Salary: Up to $150,000 Base Salary + Benefits

About Our Client

We are working with a growing technology company in Dallas that is looking for a hands-on Electrical / Hardware Product Development Engineer to help develop, improve and support real-world hardware products deployed in demanding outdoor environments.

This is not a traditional building electrical, utility, PLC or highly specialized PCB design role. The company is looking for someone broad and hands-on who enjoys owning physical products end-to-end and is comfortable working across troubleshooting, power systems, components, product development, testing and field reliability.

What you will work on

  • Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis on customer-returned hardware and failed PCB assemblies
  • Use hands-on test equipment to diagnose electrical and hardware failures
  • Support power architecture and product redesigns involving systems in the hundreds-of-watts range
  • Help improve products for higher-power applications
  • Evaluate components, power supplies and alternative parts for performance, reliability, cost and availability
  • Work with electrical and mechanical components inside rugged outdoor products
  • Support enclosure and product-development work, including CAD, prototyping, 3D printing and eventual injection-molded designs
  • Improve how products are assembled, mounted and manufactured
  • Review existing designs and identify ways to improve reliability, manufacturability, cost and serviceability
  • Support field failures and occasionally help diagnose issues at deployed customer locations
  • Work closely with a small hardware team across electrical, mechanical, embedded and manufacturing challenges

What we are looking for

  • Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or similar technical background, 4+ years of expereince
  • Hands-on experience working with physical electronic products
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware and performing root cause analysis
  • Comfortable probing boards and using tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers or similar equipment
  • Experience with power supplies, power distribution or power electronics
  • Exposure to PCB schematics and board-level hardware
  • Product development or sustaining engineering experience is highly relevant
  • Experience with ruggedized, outdoor or harsh-environment products is strongly preferred
  • Exposure to CAD, enclosures, mechanical integration or product packaging is valuable
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of loosely defined engineering problems
  • Comfortable in a small, fast-moving environment where engineers own products from development through field support

Work Style: You are the type of engineer who can be handed a failed customer unit with very little information, break the problem down, determine what failed and why, and drive the fix through to a better product.

You are also comfortable looking beyond the immediate task and thinking about the whole product, including reliability, assembly, power, component choices, manufacturability and cost.

Benefits & Culture:

  • Base salary up to $150,000 (depending on experience).
  • Comprehensive healthcare, dental, and vision coverage, plus 401(k) matching.
  • A highly collaborative, in-person engineering culture where your work directly protects lives, assets, and operations nationwide.
