Job Description

My client is a top tier debt fund with north of 40Bn AUM who are recruiting for a senior fund accountant. The role has come about due to a promotion, as the current incumbent steps into a broader leadership role the need to bring in an experienced controller with technical proficiency, particularly with a range of projects that are across the lifecycle.

The successful candidate will be a trusted business partner across the organisation, providing insight and challenge to support decision-making while ensuring the efficient management of complex institutional fund structures.

Key Responsibilities

Fund Ownership & Governance:

  1. Take full ownership and accountability for the financial oversight of a portfolio of private credit funds.
  2. Develop an in-depth understanding of fund structures, investor arrangements, financing facilities, distribution waterfalls and related legal documentation.
  3. Act as the primary finance contact for stakeholders across the business on fund-level matters.

Liquidity & Capital Management

  1. Partner closely with Treasury to optimise liquidity management across the funds.
  2. Oversee cash forecasting, capital calls, distributions and leverage utilisation.
  3. Monitor funding requirements and support strategic decisions relating to capital deployment and financing arrangements.

Fund Economics & Performance Analysis

  1. Analyse fund and portfolio performance, providing meaningful insight into returns, profitability and key value drivers.
  2. Support senior management through the preparation of financial analysis, scenario modelling and decision-support materials.
  3. Interpret complex financial information and communicate key conclusions to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

Carried Interest & Waterfalls

  1. Build, maintain and validate carried interest and distribution waterfall models.
  2. Support the execution and review of actual distributions and carry allocations.
  3. Ensure technical accuracy while identifying opportunities to enhance modelling efficiency and controls.

Planning & Strategic Initiatives

  1. Lead fund budgeting and forecasting processes.
  2. Monitor actual expenditure against budget, providing robust cost analysis and challenge where appropriate.
  3. Support fund launches, restructurings, financing initiatives and other strategic projects across the platform.

Process Improvement

  1. Identify opportunities to simplify, automate and enhance existing processes.
  2. Drive scalable solutions across the fund finance function, leveraging technology and best practice.
  3. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Skills & Experience

  1. Experience in fund controlling, fund finance or private markets finance within an alternative asset manager.
  2. Strong understanding of complex fund structures, waterfalls, carried interest and fund economics.
  3. Experience partnering with treasury functions and managing fund liquidity.
  4. Financial modelling and analytical skills.
  5. Commercial mindset with the ability to challenge assumptions, identify key risks and influence decision-making.
  6. Ability to take ownership, solve complex problems and deliver improvements.
  7. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage senior management.
