Job description

Canadian and U.S. Tax Manager

The Opportunity

StaffRight Associates is recruiting for a Canadian and U.S. Tax Manager on behalf of a well-established accounting practice in North York (Toronto), Ontario that serves personal and corporate clients on both sides of the border. Steady growth and an upcoming retirement have created an opening for a seasoned tax professional who can step in right away.

As the Canadian and U.S. Tax Manager, you will focus on technical review rather than preparation: checking returns and engagements, mentoring the team, and helping the practice absorb rising client volume. You will partner directly with the firm's owner and play a central role across both Canadian and U.S. tax operations. This is a primarily in-office role, on-site 4–5 days per week.

What You'll Do

  • Review Canadian and U.S. personal and corporate tax returns for accuracy and compliance.
  • Evaluate financial statements and compilation engagements.
  • Examine T1 and T2 returns completed by junior team members.
  • Coach preparers and junior reviewers with technical guidance and day-to-day support.
  • Orchestrate workflow so tax engagements close on schedule.
  • Absorb technical reviews and client questions to lighten the partner's load.
  • Strengthen quality control and compliance procedures.
  • Advance the continued expansion of the firm's Canadian and U.S. tax practice.
  • Collaborate with the managing partner, multiple tax preparers, existing reviewers, and a seasonal team during peak periods.

What You Bring

Required

  • Solid, hands-on expertise in both Canadian Taxation and U.S. Taxation, gained in public accounting.
  • A track record of Tax Return Review for personal and corporate clients.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian Corporate Tax (T2) returns.
  • Experience reviewing Financial Statements and Compilation Engagements.
  • Deep technical tax knowledge.
  • Excellent written and verbal Communication skills.
  • Comfort working independently with little supervision.
  • Associate's degree or two-year diploma (minimum).
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada without employer sponsorship.

Preferred

  • CPA designation or equivalent experience.
  • Background in Cross-Border Tax matters between Canada and the U.S.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff.
  • Experience reviewing complex U.S. personal and corporate returns.
  • Familiarity with Cloud-Based Tax Software, CCH tax solutions, QuickBooks, and secure client portals.

Compensation & Total Rewards

  • Salary: CAD $80,000–$110,000
  • Engagement: Full-time, direct hire; primarily on-site (4–5 days per week) in North York, Toronto, ON
  • Benefits: 4 weeks paid vacation; free on-site parking; flexibility for family and personal commitments; collaborative, supportive office culture; stable, year-round workload
