Job Description

NetDocuments & PatternBuilder AI Specialist

Location: London / Hybrid — one day per week in the office
Salary: £90,000 per annum
Contract: Initial six-month fixed-term contract
Reporting to: IT Director
Sector: Legal Technology

The Opportunity

We are working with an established law firm to recruit a NetDocuments & PatternBuilder AI Specialist to support the implementation and rollout of AI-enabled solutions across its legal technology environment.

This is a hands-on role for someone with proven experience across both NetDocuments and PatternBuilder, including practical experience with NetDocuments' AI capabilities. You will work closely with the IT Director to help translate business requirements into effective technical solutions, supporting implementation from configuration and testing through to rollout and user adoption.

The firm is looking for someone who understands how legal technology operates in practice and can apply their platform knowledge to real business requirements. Experience working in a law firm or legal-sector technology environment is essential, as is the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders, understand their needs and deliver solutions that work for legal professionals.

This opportunity would suit a technically capable specialist who can take ownership of implementation activities, work independently and collaborate with senior IT leadership and business stakeholders to deliver practical AI and automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with the IT Director and relevant stakeholders, you will:

  • Implement, configure and roll out AI functionality across NetDocuments and PatternBuilder.
  • Build and configure applications, workflows and automation using the relevant platform capabilities.
  • Apply hands-on experience with NetDocuments AI products and functionality to support the delivery of AI-enabled solutions.
  • Work with stakeholders to understand business requirements and identify opportunities to improve legal workflows through AI and automation.
  • Translate user and business requirements into practical technical configurations and working solutions.
  • Support the full implementation lifecycle, including requirements gathering, configuration, testing, refinement and deployment.
  • Validate solutions before rollout, ensuring they meet requirements and are appropriate for use within a legal environment.
  • Engage with legal and business stakeholders to demonstrate functionality, gather feedback and support adoption.
  • Work with the IT Director to agree priorities, communicate progress and resolve implementation challenges.
  • Consider confidentiality, information security, data protection and appropriate AI governance throughout implementation.
  • Produce relevant technical documentation and provide knowledge transfer to support ongoing use and maintenance.
  • Liaise with platform vendors and external technology partners where necessary.
Essential Experience and Skills

To be considered, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Hands-on NetDocuments experience, including practical involvement in configuring, implementing or developing solutions within the platform.
  • Hands-on PatternBuilder experience, with the ability to build or configure applications and workflows.
  • Specific experience with NetDocuments' AI capabilities or AI products, rather than general AI experience alone.
  • Previous experience working in a law firm or legal-sector technology environment.
  • Experience implementing and rolling out technology solutions in response to business requirements.
  • An understanding of legal workflows, document management and the technology requirements of legal professionals.
  • The ability to work independently, take ownership of technical deliverables and progress implementation activities.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the confidence to engage with the IT Director and client-facing business stakeholders.
  • The ability to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions and explain these clearly to non-technical users.
  • An appreciation of the confidentiality, security and governance considerations associated with AI in a legal environment.
The Person

We are looking for a practical, delivery-focused specialist who combines platform expertise with an understanding of how technology is used within a legal environment.

You will be comfortable getting hands-on with NetDocuments and PatternBuilder, configuring solutions, testing functionality and supporting implementation through to rollout. You should be able to work independently while knowing when to involve the IT Director or other stakeholders to resolve issues and agree priorities.

Strong communication skills are important. You will need to understand stakeholder requirements, manage expectations and help ensure the solutions being delivered address genuine business needs.

This is not a generalist AI engineering position. Candidates whose experience is limited to LLM development, generic prompt engineering or AI experimentation, without the required NetDocuments and PatternBuilder experience, will not meet the core requirements.

Working Arrangements
  • Salary: £90,000 per annum.
  • Contract: Initial six-month fixed-term contract.
  • Location: London, with one day per week in the office.
  • Reporting line: IT Director.

If you have hands-on experience with NetDocuments, PatternBuilder and NetDocuments AI capabilities, alongside experience delivering technology solutions in the legal sector, we would welcome a conversation.
