Job Description

Veterinary Surgeon - Small Animal
Market Veterinary Centre - Barnstaple, Devon
Salary up to £60,000 DOE, welcome bonus up to £5,000 and relocation allowance up to £5,000

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

Market Vets, part of ivc, are looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and supportive team in North Devon. You’ll be based primarily at our Barnstaple practice, with occasional support at our South Molton branch.

Consulting, Surgery & Plenty of Variety

We offer a great balance of consultations and surgery, with everything from routine procedures through to emergency and critical care. There’s plenty of variety to keep things interesting, while also giving you the freedom to develop the clinical areas you enjoy most.

Whether you already have a particular interest or are still figuring out where you’d like your career to take you, there’s plenty of opportunity to learn and get involved.

Great Facilities to Support You

We’re well equipped with an in-house laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, dental radiography, therapeutic K-laser and multiparameter anaesthetic monitoring.

So, whether you’re working up a tricky case or carrying out a routine procedure, you’ll have the facilities and equipment around you to provide excellent patient care.

A Team That Loves to Share Knowledge

You’ll be joining a welcoming team of 12 vets and 13 RVNs, alongside an experienced client care team and Practice Director. We have a certificate holder in exotics and colleagues with interests across orthopaedics, dentistry and farm animal medicine, creating a great environment for learning and sharing knowledge.

CPD and professional development are genuinely encouraged, with support available if you’d like to pursue further study or a certificate.

Part of the North Devon Community

Our work doesn’t stop at the practice doors. We run fortnightly outreach clinics in Torrington and Lynton, helping to make veterinary care more accessible across North Devon while building strong relationships with the local community.

A Flexible Working Pattern

This is a full-time role of 40 hours per week, worked over four or five days. There is a shared 1:5 weekend rota and on-call commitment until 7pm, after which a dedicated out-of-hours provider takes over. We’re also happy to consider part-time applications.

At inspiring vet care, we’re committed to supporting your ongoing development and wellbeing. When you join us, you’ll benefit from:

* Clear career pathways with progression opportunities across primary care, referral, leadership, and specialist roles
* Funded learning and development including CPD allowance and access to IVC academy training centres & role-relevant courses
* £1,250 annual Care Fund for every vet
* Access to mentors, regional clinical coaches, and peer networks
