Job Description
The sterilising department at East Melbourne services 11 Operating Theatres, Uro/Gynae Unit and some external customers. The Department covers a variety of specialties including Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Plastics, General surgery, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology & Breast surgery.
Responsibilities include:
- Collect, clean and decontaminate equipment used by the Operating Suite and Clinical units on a daily basis.
- Load and unload ultrasonic, instrument washers, dryers and sterilisers according to instructions and general duties list.
- Inspect and reassemble items as required.
- Prepare, check and package instruments and loan sets to be sterilised.
- Prepare operating theatre set-ups for the following days surgeries (desirable).

As an outstanding Instrument Technician, your skills will include:
- Instrument technician qualification, Certificate III or IV (or equivalent) from an accredited institution
- Must have a minimum of 1 year experience working as a Grade III Instrument Technician or 3 years as a Grade IV Instrument Technician
- Must be able to undertake work of a more complex nature within established procedures and guidelines
- Ability to rotate through all areas of the department
- Must work a rotating roster (days, evenings & night shifts)
- Experience in loans department and theatre set-ups desirable
Criminal record and/or child protection checks will be conducted and will form part of the selection criteria for this role. SVPHM has a duty of care under work health and safety legislation to eliminate and/or control the risk of transmission of vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) in healthcare settings. You are therefore required to comply with the SVHA Staff Health Screening Immunisation Policy, which, depending on the role you perform in the organisation will require you to undergo mandatory immunisations/vaccinations (including flu vaccinations). SVHA generally requires its staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
