IT Expert Senior - Apigee X Delivery Consultant
Location: Remote (occasional site visits) London
Contract: ASAP - June 2027

Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Senior Apigee X Consultant to support the hands-on configuration, development, testing and deployment of enterprise API management solutions on Google Cloud Platform.
The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing Apigee X proxies, policies, security controls, target connectivity and environment configurations across multiple technical workstreams.
This is a hands-on technical delivery role requiring strong API engineering skills, troubleshooting capabilities and experience working with DevOps and CI/CD practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, configure and maintain API proxies and shared flows within Apigee X.
• Implement API policies, target Servers, KVMs, API products and developer applications.
• Configure API authentication, authorisation and security controls.
• Implement OAuth 2.0, JWT, API key validation, mTLS and token-management patterns.
• Support Apigee X integration with Cloud Run and other GCP workloads.
• Configure and test Apigee environments, routing and target connectivity.
• Implement API security and governance controls across multiple workstreams.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated API deployment and promotion.
• Support API migration, onboarding and deployment activities.
• Perform functional, integration, performance and security testing.
• Troubleshoot end-to-end API requests, including authentication, routing, TLS and policy-related failures.
• Maintain appropriate API monitoring, logging and operational diagnostics.
• Produce test evidence, implementation documentation, onboarding guidance and runbooks.
• Collaborate with application developers, cloud engineers, platform teams and security specialists.
• Provide production support, incident investigation and root-cause analysis.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Significant hands-on experience developing and supporting Apigee X APIs in production.
• Strong knowledge of GCP and cloud-based API integrations.
• Proven experience building API proxies, shared flows, policies, target Servers and API products.
• Experience with Apigee policies including OAuthV2, VerifyAPIKey, AssignMessage, RaiseFault, ServiceCallout, SpikeArrest and Quota.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, OpenAPI specifications and API life cycle management.
• Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, API keys, TLS and mTLS.
• Strong understanding of API troubleshooting, HTTP protocols, networking, DNS and authentication.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, Harness, Jenkins, Cloud Build or similar.
• Familiarity with Terraform and automated Apigee configuration management.
• Strong Scripting or development skills using Python, JavaScript, Node.js or Bash.
• Experience producing automated tests, technical documentation and operational runbooks.
• Proven experience supporting enterprise production environments.

Desirable Experience

• Experience integrating Apigee X with Cloud Run, GKE or private GCP workloads.
• Experience with API hub or Advanced API Security.
• Experience migrating APIs from Apigee Edge or alternative API gateways.
• Knowledge of Dynatrace, Google Cloud Operations and ServiceNow.
• Experience with Backstage developer portals.
• Experience within banking or regulated financial services.
