About the role

As a Maintenance Technician at Westmag, you will keep our production equipment and facilities running at peak performance as we scale manufacturing of drone motors and robot actuators. You will perform predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance across a range of electrical and mechanical systems, respond quickly to equipment breakdowns, working with production and engineering teams to minimize downtime and improve reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance programs for production and facility equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults to restore equipment to operational status.
  • Replace and calibrate worn or failed components including motors, bearings, belts, sensors, solenoids, and production tooling.
  • Troubleshoot and repair 120V/240V/480V electrical systems and PLC-based equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, and P&ID drawings.
  • Safely isolate and lock out energy sources in compliance with Cal/OSHA 8 CCR §3314 (lockout/tagout).
  • Maintain compressed air systems, HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and general facility infrastructure.
  • Perform minor structural repairs including welding, metal fabrication, and carpentry as needed.
  • Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns and unplanned downtime events.
  • Identify recurring failure modes and propose root-cause solutions to reduce downtime.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and parts usage records in the CMMS.

Required qualifications

  • GED, high school diploma, or higher.
  • 3+ years of maintenance technician experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot both electrical and mechanical systems independently.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments (multimeters, clamp meters, meggers).
  • Working knowledge of lockout/tagout, electrical safety, and general shop safety practices.
  • Hold at least one current, recognized technical certification.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Clear written and verbal communication for accurate work documentation and shift handoffs.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Valid California driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience maintaining high-volume production equipment (automotive, electronics, etc.)
  • PLC programming or advanced troubleshooting experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
  • Experience with CMMS platforms for work order and PM scheduling.
  • MIG or TIG welding certification.
  • Forklift or aerial lift operator certification.

Work environment & physical requirements

  • On-site role in an active production environment with exposure to machinery, electrical systems, and moderate noise.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb unassisted.
  • Ability to work at height on ladders and elevated platforms, and within confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and reach for extended periods during repair and maintenance tasks.
  • PPE required including safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, hearing protection, and gloves as applicable.
  • Exposure to lubricants, solvents, and cleaning agents; proper handling training provided.
  • Availability for on-call response and occasional overtime to support maintenance emergencies.
