Job description

Every institution values excellence. What matters most is why.
Griffith was created to be a different type of university. As a Data Insights Analyst, you’ll find we’re about leading research, academic excellence, and the transformative power of education. But what sets us apart is why those things matter and how you’ll achieve them.

Why? Griffith brings together exceptional minds like yours from across the globe and from all walks of life. Here, we do incredible work, questioning and challenging, always in the pursuit of excellence.

The Senior Data Insights Analyst is a senior specialist role within BI & Analytics, providing a dedicated analytical partnership to Student Experience. The role leads the design and delivery of rigorous evaluations, advanced statistical analyses, and modeling that strengthen understanding of student equity, experience, engagement, success, retention, and completion.

Working closely with Student Experience leaders, evaluation specialists, program teams, and other University stakeholders, the role determines fit-for-purpose analytical approaches, evaluates the reach and effectiveness of student initiatives, and translates complex findings into clear, practical recommendations. The role applies BI & Analytics standards, governed institutional data, and reproducible analytical methods to build credible evidence about what is working, for whom, under what conditions, and where services or investment could be refined.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end analytical design and delivery of student equity and experience evaluations, from the development of evaluation questions and outcome measures through to statistical analysis, interpretation, reporting, and recommendations.

  • Apply advanced statistical and analytical methods—using R, Python, SQL, or other appropriate tools—to analyze longitudinal, hierarchical, observational, and linked institutional data. Methods may include regression, survival and time-to-event analysis, multilevel and mixed-effects modeling, predictive modeling, quasi-experimental approaches, segmentation, and other techniques suited to the evaluation question and available data.

  • Provide senior methodological advice on evaluation design, comparison groups, counterfactuals, sampling, statistical power, model selection, assumptions, missing data, clustering, bias, sensitivity analysis, and the appropriate interpretation of causal and non-causal findings.

  • Evaluate the reach, implementation, outcomes, and impact of student initiatives, including whether programs are reaching intended cohorts, how outcomes vary between student groups, and how the timing, intensity, sequencing, or combination of supports may influence student outcomes.

  • Use independent professional judgment to select and adapt analytical approaches for complex or previously undefined problems, clearly documenting limitations, uncertainty, evidence strength, and conditions affecting interpretation.

  • Translate analytical findings into clear, decision-ready advice for Student Experience and senior University stakeholders, identifying implications for program design, targeting, coordination, investment, continuation, scaling, redesign, or further evaluation.

  • Build robust and reproducible analytical workflows, including validated analysis-ready datasets, documented definitions and assumptions, reusable code, model diagnostics, quality-assurance checks, and transparent methods that enable findings to be reviewed, repeated, and updated.

  • Partner with Student Experience teams and subject-matter experts to strengthen program logic, evaluation plans, data-collection practices, outcome definitions, and minimum data standards so that initiatives are designed and delivered in ways that support meaningful evaluation.

  • Work with BI & Analytics colleagues to ensure analyses use governed institutional data and consistent definitions, and contribute specialist advice to the development and quality assurance of equity measures, analytical datasets, models, and evaluation standards.

  • Develop dashboards, visualizations, monitoring products, and recurring reports where these support evaluation, communicate findings, or enable ongoing tracking of student outcomes. Dashboarding and routine reporting are supporting capabilities of the role rather than its primary purpose.

  • Undertake targeted research and evidence synthesis to identify emerging analytical methods, sector practices, policy expectations, and external evidence relevant to student equity and experience, and assess their implications for Griffith.

  • Provide technical leadership, peer review, coaching, and mentoring to analysts and project colleagues in statistical practice, evaluation methods, reproducible analysis, quality assurance, and the communication of complex findings, without formal people-management responsibility.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of University analytical practice by developing reusable methods, templates, guidance, and evaluation approaches that increase analytical rigor, consistency, efficiency, and institutional capability.

  • Operate in accordance with University requirements for privacy, ethics, security, responsible data use, and analytical integrity, exercising particular care when working with sensitive student and equity data.
