Job Description

About the Role

We're looking for a Database Administrator III to lead database patch management and security across our Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server environments. we are moving from a quarterly to a monthly patching cadence, and the accelerating pace of AI-driven security threats has made timely, well-automated patching a top priority for our organization. This role will own that effort end-to-end — and take on traditional DBA work as capacity allows.

This is a hands-on, high-visibility position: you'll be the person closing the gap between "a patch is available" and "a patch is deployed," building the automation and reporting that make a monthly cadence sustainable rather than a scramble.

What You'll Do

  • Plan, schedule, and execute monthly patching cycles across Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server, aligned to vendor release schedules (including Oracle Critical Patch Updates), with minimal disruption to production availability and SLA compliance
  • Design, build, and maintain automation for patch deployment, pre/post-patch validation, and rollback — using scripting and orchestration tooling to cut manual effort and shrink the time between patch release and deployment
  • Build and maintain patch management reporting and dashboards — coverage, compliance status, exceptions, remediation timelines — and communicate status to IT leadership and stakeholders
  • Partner on an ongoing basis with IT Security and Oracle to triage newly disclosed vulnerabilities, prioritize remediation by severity, exploitability, and active threat trends, and continuously evolve the patching cadence and process as the threat landscape shifts
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of database assets and their patch levels, and support ongoing vulnerability scanning and remediation tracking to eliminate blind spots

Required Experience

  • Hands-on database patching and upgrades — including Oracle Critical Patch Updates (CPU) / Release Updates — on a recurring monthly cadence in production
  • Experience automating patch deployment, validation, and rollback using shell scripting (ksh/PERL), PL/SQL, and automation/orchestration tooling (e.g., Ansible, Oracle Enterprise Manager/Cloud Control, or equivalent)
  • Experience building patch management reporting and metrics — compliance, coverage, remediation SLAs — for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Working knowledge of database security hardening, vulnerability management, and CVE remediation practices
