Navigation Engineer (Algorithms)

Our client, a leading organisation in the defence and security sector, is seeking a Senior Navigation Engineer to join its highly capable Guidance, Control and Navigation team in Bristol. This permanent role offers the opportunity to contribute to advanced systems, combining hands-on technical engineering, research and strategic influence without line management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Developing and analysing sophisticated guidance, control and navigation algorithms throughout the systems full lifecycle<br />Contributing to the specification, design, implementation and verification of real-time guidance and control architectures<br />Working with complex systems and equipment, including RF and infrared seekers, inertial sensors, actuators, propulsion systems and launch platform interfaces<br />Influencing the future direction of guidance and control design, testing and technical strategy<br />Defining clear engineering requirements and objectives from complex technical challenges<br />Managing system complexity by identifying the key technical drivers within interconnected engineering environments<br />Diagnosing system abnormalities through physical investigation, computer modelling and simulation using MATLAB and Simulink<br />Collaborating across departments, directorates and national boundaries from early research and concept development through to full-scale development and guided flight trials Job

Requirements:

Extensive experience in aerospace guidance, control and navigation specification, analysis, algorithm design and implementation<br />Strong understanding of navigation systems, sensors, algorithms, real-time architecture and systems verification<br />Ability to cross-verify complex systems and system models against underlying theory<br />Experience using MATLAB and Simulink for modelling, simulation and engineering analysis<br />Ability to communicate complex or conceptually difficult ideas clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders<br />Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to define engineering challenges and establish unambiguous requirements<br />Ability to provide technical influence where wider programme or operational factors affect engineering decisions<br />Interest in control applications, preferably applied flight control, would be advantageous Additional Information: This role requires attendance on site in Bristol five days per week due to workload classification<br />Flexible working arrangements may be considered where operational requirements allow
