Job Description:
Amplify is seeking an Instructional Coach for Literacy with a background in teaching, coaching, and/or school leadership to join our Professional Development (PD) team as a fixed-term employee supporting the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) during the 2026–2027 school year.
Strong candidates will have deep knowledge of science of reading pedagogy and high-quality, aligned instructional materials. The ideal candidate has elementary classroom teaching experience and experience coaching teachers and leaders to bring effective literacy instruction to life in classrooms. The Instructional Coach will provide onsite coaching and professional learning for teachers, school leaders, and regional leaders across LAUSD who are implementing Amplify literacy products, with primary responsibility for supporting mCLASS implementation. The goal of this role is to strengthen literacy instruction and product implementation by delivering high-quality coaching and professional learning that improves teaching practice and student outcomes.
Essential Responsibilities:
In this role, you will collaborate with regional and school leadership, as well as the Amplify Literacy Professional Development Strategist assigned to LAUSD, to determine the coaching strategy, focus, and approach throughout the school year. You will also partner with regional and school leadership to adjust plans as needed, with a focus on improving student outcomes. An outcomes-centered mindset, flexibility, and the ability to pivot on short notice are essential to success in this role.
The Instructional Coach’s daily responsibilities will be determined along with their manager, based on the district’s goals and priorities throughout the year. Specific areas of focus may include, but are not limited to:
Planning for and leading region-wide and district-wide professional development for teachers and/or leaders, in person and remotely as needed
Conducting observations and providing feedback to teachers and leaders to strengthen implementation of Amplify's literacy suite and support improved student outcomes
Delivering model small-group instruction and co-teaching alongside classroom teachers
Facilitating PLCs for leaders and/or teachers, including supplementary office hours and consultations that may include:
Supporting instructional planning and data analysis
Analyzing student work and formative assessment data to inform instructional decision-making and responsiveness to learner needs
Providing recommendations to educators designed to enhance equitable learning outcomes for diverse student populations, including Students with Learning & Thinking Differences and English Learners
Offering regularly scheduled office hours and other regional professional development in support of district initiatives
In addition to these specific areas of focus in coaching, the Instructional Coach will also:
Develop and maintain knowledge of the full Amplify Literacy Suite to support a cohesive educator experience across products
Proactively seek and incorporate feedback, adapting practice based on feedback and evidence of improved student outcomes
Create or customize professional development experiences, as needed
Facilitate district-wide professional development sessions (in person and remote), as needed, for leaders and teachers
Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience teaching foundational skills (phonological/phonemic awareness, phonics and fluency) with Science of Reading aligned, high quality instructional materials
2+ years of experience leading sustained coaching engagements and professional development for educators in K-5
5+ years of K–5 classroom literacy teaching experience with demonstrated positive outcomes for students
Demonstrated experience in educational leadership
Experience working on collaborative projects with leaders and teachers
Experience analyzing data and using it to inform practice
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, multiple engagements, and competing priorities
Strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology-based productivity tools including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications
Able to commute (approximately 4 days per week) to schools in Los Angeles to support educators onsite in Los Angeles area schools
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using or supporting mCLASS
Ability to support teachers in a remote learning environment, if needed
Able to navigate instruction with different Learning Management Systems (Schoology, Clever, Google Classroom, etc.)
Fluent in Spanish (including speaking, reading, and writing) and able to deliver trainings in Spanish
Knowledge of CKLA/Caminos, Amplify ELA, and/or Boost is a plus
Master’s or advanced degree in education
Location: This position requires the Instructional Coach to be authorized to work in and reside in the United States and possess a valid U.S. driver's license. The Instructional Coach must live within 30 miles of LAUSD. Based on business needs, including during school closures or in the event the contract ends early, the Coach may be asked to deliver sessions in other locations throughout the country.
This position will follow the LAUSD district calendar. Most weeks will consist of 40 hours; however, the Instructional Coach may support the Amplify PD team on department-wide initiatives during periods when LAUSD teachers are not in session, including holidays, winter break, summer break, and school cancellations. Support will vary and may include designing and/or delivering professional development for LAUSD and other districts during the summer and school breaks.
Travel: Local travel is required and is considered an essential function of this role. The Instructional Coach must provide their own reliable transportation to travel to and work with educators onsite throughout the district up to four days per week. Mileage and other approved business travel expenses incurred in connection with professional development delivery will be reimbursed in accordance with Amplify's expense reimbursement policies. Reimbursements, including mileage for the use of a personal vehicle, are generally processed within 2–3 weeks after submission of an expense reimbursement request.

Equipment: This position requires reliable home internet that can support video calls on Google Meet and Zoom and a quiet, professional place to deliver remote professional development.
