Quick overview
Job description
About Brelle
Energy for what moves us.
The next generation of vehicles and aircraft won't be built with yesterday's manufacturing playbook.
Brelle is building a new approach to manufacturing for an increasingly electrified world, bringing together advanced engineering, software, testing, and automated production to develop and build high-performance energy and powertrain systems.
We're a California based, venture backed team working with some of the most demanding names in high performance mobility, including supercars and superbikes. Our work spans novel battery pack architecture, full-stack software, and automated manufacturing, with the goal of making machines lighter, safer, and more capable.
We're building something ambitious, and we're still early. That means real ownership, difficult technical problems, and the opportunity to see your work move from an idea to something real. We value people who think beyond their job description, challenge conventional approaches, and follow through on what they take on.
Build something exceptional. Own your work. See it move.
About the Role
As Director of Electrical Engineering, you will lead the electrical engineering function at Brelle. This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced electrical engineer who can set technical direction, lead complex design work, and build a strong team as the company grows.
You'll own electrical engineering across our products and programs, from system architecture and electrical design through integration, testing, and validation. You'll work closely with mechanical engineering, firmware, systems integration, and manufacturing to ensure our electrical systems are designed for performance, reliability, manufacturability, and real-world application.
You'll also lead and develop our electrical engineering team, providing technical guidance, establishing sound engineering practices, and helping engineers grow in their capabilities and ownership. We're looking for someone who can move comfortably between the big picture and the technical details, making thoughtful engineering decisions while staying close to the work.
This is an opportunity to shape both the technology and the team behind it.
What You'll Do
Lead Electrical Engineering
Own the electrical engineering function, setting technical direction, priorities, and engineering standards across Brelle's products and programs.
Lead electrical system architecture and design, balancing performance, safety, reliability, packaging, weight, cost, and manufacturability.
Guide electrical design across complex electromechanical systems, including power distribution, control systems, ECUs, and supporting electronics.
Make and communicate sound technical decisions, working through tradeoffs and resolving complex design challenges.
Establish design review, documentation, verification, and validation practices that support quality and consistency as the team scales.
Drive Design, Integration, and Validation
Lead electrical design from early architecture and requirements through detailed design, prototyping, integration, testing, and production.
Partner closely with mechanical engineering, embedded firmware, systems integration, and manufacturing to ensure electrical systems work seamlessly across the product.
Oversee the design and integration of electrical interfaces, control electronics, wiring, connectors, and related systems.
Work through system-level issues, lead root cause analysis, and drive problems to resolution.
Ensure designs account for applicable electrical safety requirements, environmental conditions, electromagnetic compatibility, and production constraints.
Collaborate with manufacturing to develop practical, repeatable approaches to assembly, testing, and quality control.
Build and Lead the Team
Manage, mentor, and develop electrical engineers, including providing technical guidance, setting clear expectations, and supporting individual growth.
Establish clear ownership, priorities, and accountability across electrical engineering projects.
Build a collaborative team culture where engineers take initiative, challenge assumptions, and solve problems together.
Identify capability gaps and help shape the hiring plan as Brelle expands its electrical engineering organization.
Develop engineering processes and standards that improve execution without adding unnecessary bureaucracy.
Work Across the Business
Partner with engineering and company leadership to align electrical engineering priorities with customer requirements and business objectives.
Work directly with cross-functional teams and customers to understand technical requirements, communicate tradeoffs, and resolve issues.
Balance competing program needs while maintaining technical quality and execution.
Help build the engineering organization, tools, and processes needed to support Brelle's next stage of growth.
What We're Looking For
A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Significant experience in electrical engineering, including leading the design and development of complex electrical systems for physical products.
Demonstrated experience leading and developing engineers through direct people management, mentorship, and technical leadership.
Deep understanding of electrical system architecture, circuit design, power distribution, electrical interfaces, and hardware integration.
Experience taking electrical designs from concept through prototyping, testing, validation, and production.
Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs across performance, reliability, safety, cost, packaging, and manufacturability.
Experience working closely with embedded firmware and control systems, including ECU design and hardware-software integration.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead technical investigations from initial symptoms through root cause and resolution.
A hands-on approach and the technical depth to engage directly in design reviews, troubleshooting, and complex engineering decisions.
Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively across engineering disciplines, manufacturing, and company leadership.
Comfort operating in a growing company where priorities evolve, processes are still being built, and leaders are expected to take ownership beyond their immediate area.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following would be especially valuable:
Automotive, motorsports, powersports, aerospace, robotics, or other complex electromechanical products.
ECU architecture and design, embedded control electronics, and hardware-software integration.
High-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems, including power distribution and electrical safety.
Electrified powertrains, energy systems, or other electrically driven products.
Design for manufacturing, automated production, and electrical end-of-line testing.
Building or scaling an engineering team in an early-stage or high-growth environment.
How We Work
At Brelle, we value people who take ownership, think beyond their immediate responsibilities, and care about the quality of what they build.
Our operating principles reflect how we work:
Big Picture: Understand the broader problem and how your work contributes to the outcome.
Team First: Work across disciplines, share context, and help the team succeed.
Lean In: Take initiative, identify what needs to happen, and step in to make progress.
Be Obsessed: Care deeply about the details, the engineering, and the quality of the result.
Follow Through: Take responsibility for outcomes and see the work through to completion.
We're looking for a leader who embodies these principles, builds trust through technical judgment and follow-through, and helps create an environment where strong engineers can do their best work.
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary: $210,000 - $260,000
Final compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and the overall fit for the role.
Meaningful equity participation through Brelle's Employee Incentive Plan.
Medical, dental, and vision (HMO/PPO)
401(k)
Flexible PTO
Team meals twice a week
Monthly team events
Brelle is an equal opportunity employer.
