Job description

2080 Senior Network and Server Engineer

Industrial Manufacturing Environment

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Network and Server Engineer to plan, implement, and support IT infrastructure for an automotive manufacturing operation. The position combines hands-on expertise in virtualization, server, and network technologies with the leadership and project coordination needed to deliver infrastructure improvements in a production setting where system availability and reliability are essential.

Key Responsibilities

•               Implement, maintain, and enhance enterprise virtualization platforms, including VMware and Nutanix, with responsibility for capacity planning, high availability, disaster recovery, and upgrades.

•               Support Windows Server 2019 and newer systems, including Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, file and print services, and regular patching.

•               Maintain Cisco Catalyst switching and Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) environments, including VLANs, QoS, and access controls for office and production networks.

•               Manage Microsoft 365 services such as Exchange Online, Entra ID (Azure AD), SharePoint/OneDrive, Teams, and endpoint administration.

•               Maintain the network and server systems that support manufacturing execution applications, shop-floor controllers, and production equipment, helping limit interruptions.

•               Coordinate and execute infrastructure initiatives such as data center modernization, network upgrades, facility expansions, and system migrations through completion.

•               Create and update network diagrams, technical documentation, and operating procedures for infrastructure systems.

•               Track server and network health, identifying and resolving performance or availability concerns before production is affected.

•               Apply security practices across servers, switches, and wireless systems, including appropriate separation of business IT and operational technology networks.

•               Coordinate with infrastructure vendors, service partners, and external providers.

•               Offer technical guidance to less experienced IT team members and collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and operations personnel.

•               Support an on-call schedule and respond to urgent issues affecting production systems or infrastructure.

Required Qualifications

•               At least 5 years of network and server engineering experience; manufacturing or industrial exposure is preferred.

•               Practical experience administering Nutanix hyperconverged platforms, including AHV and Prism.

•               Experience supporting Windows Server 2019 or newer environments.

•               Working expertise with Cisco Catalyst switches and Cisco WLC, including VLAN configuration and network segmentation in industrial settings.

•               Proficiency managing Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Entra ID/Azure AD, SharePoint Online, Teams, and security/compliance capabilities.

•               Experience planning and leading infrastructure projects, including budgets, timelines, and coordination across teams.

•               Effective leadership, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills across IT and production functions.

•               Knowledge of network security fundamentals, especially segmentation between enterprise and OT/shop-floor environments.

•               Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications

•               Experience using AI-enabled assistants or tools to streamline IT workflows, documentation, or reporting.

•               Exposure to manufacturing execution systems (MES) used in automotive or similar production settings.

•               Certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, VMware VCP, Nutanix NCP, PMP, or comparable credentials.

•               Experience with industrial networks, PLC-connected equipment, or operational technology systems.

•               Familiarity with CMMC, ITAR, and NIST standards and guidance.

Skills and Attributes

•               Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with a structured root-cause approach.

•               Ability to balance multiple infrastructure projects and operational needs in a busy production environment.

•               Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical topics to business partners.

•               Accountability and follow-through on incidents, deliverables, and ongoing improvements.

•               Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

•               Ability to write and maintain practical technical procedures, policies, and standards.

Work Environment

This position supports an active manufacturing facility and may involve occasional work on the production floor, as well as scheduled after-hours or on-call coverage to protect operations.
