The Role

• Interpret engineering drawings, mark off materials, and prepare plate using oxy-fuel cutting and hand grinding.
• Assemble ship structures, ensuring accurate fitting, fairing, and tack-welding of components like decks, bulkheads, and frames.
• Fabricate various ship items, including seats, ladders, panels, hatches, and flooring systems.
• Form materials using machine tools such as rolling, flanging, guillotines, and mechanical saws.
• Work as part of a team, applying technical skills to produce high-quality steelwork for vital defence projects.

What You'll Need

• A Modern Apprenticeship certificate or Trade Papers, along with relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
• Up-to-date fabrication knowledge and hands-on experience in construction or manufacturing.
• Proficiency in core manufacturing processes and tack welding to safety and quality standards.
• Confident and responsible operation of oxy-fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment.
• Adherence to SHE principles and risk-assessment requirements in all working conditions.
• Experience working safely in confined spaces or at height, with relevant safety certifications.
