Job Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading specialist machinery manufacturer. The company designs and builds high-precision automated production equipment used in a variety of sectors, including industrial manufacturing and bespoke automation solutions.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to take ownership of projects, work closely with production teams, and be involved hands-on during build and commissioning to gain deeper insights into the machines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design activities on assigned projects
  • Produce and maintain 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and assemblies
  • Implement engineering changes during build and commissioning
  • Maintain accurate BOMs, drawing registers, and project documentation
  • Lead internal design review meetings
  • Support customer-facing technical discussions and design reviews
  • Ensure all parts and assemblies are correctly loaded and maintained in the MRP system
  • Assist with CE compliance, machinery risk assessments, and technical documentation
  • Mentor junior designers and support development of CAD/drafting skills
  • Support production, spares, and servicing enquiries
About You
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer
  • Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
  • Experience with special purpose machinery, automation systems, or bespoke production equipment
  • Knowledge of BOM management, MRP systems, and engineering change control
  • Understanding of CE compliance and machinery risk assessments
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • Hands-on mindset and comfortable engaging with production and commissioning teams
