Job Description

Resource Innovations (RI) is seeking a full-time SEM Coach to join our growing Strategic Energy Management practice. In this role, you'll deliver SEM initiatives and energy reduction measures for industrial and commercial customers on behalf of utility programs. This role blends relationship building, engineering, and project management to cultivate customer engagement, deliver impactful training, and provide excellent service, all while continuously improving our SEM delivery and process.

The SEM Coach will work alongside RI Energy Managers and Engineers. Rather than building an energy management function from the ground up, you'll team with an Energy Manager who knows their customer. They will expect a focused SEM experience to sharpen their existing relationship with structured cohort learning, best practices, and accountability. Success in this role means knowing how to add value alongside an already-capable internal partner, not just how to build capability from scratch.

Resource Innovations (RI) is a women-led energy transformation firm focused on impact. Building on our expertise in energy efficiency, we're constantly expanding our portfolio of clean energy solutions to guide utilities through increasingly complex, connected challenges. Load flexibility. Electrification. Carbon reduction. With every step, we're leading the charge to power change.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support SEM programs to achieve energy savings goals.
  • Lead virtual and onsite events to identify and prioritize energy reduction actions, calibrated to fit into an energy management practice.
  • Coach customers (energy champion, executive sponsor, and their broader energy team) to integrate SEM tools and habits into existing business practices.
  • Deliver professional cohort training and onsite facilitation, tracking, and reporting.
  • Review energy performance results with the client, including outputs from energy intensity models and AMI interval data.
  • Deliver excellent customer service (commercial and industrial end users, utility clients, and program staff).
  • Be a champion for energy efficiency (projects and the approach).
  • Proactively identify problems and solve them.
  • Maximize quality and promote continuous improvement.
  • Provide timely technical and program feedback, listen to customer needs, set expectations appropriately, and deliver what you promise.
  • Provide clear and understandable technical assistance to customers. Support may include calculations, scope development, implementation details, and/or impacts on operations.
  • Support development and validation of IPMVP Option C savings calculations and M&V documentation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of SEM delivery, energy information systems, and internal coaching tools and processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or similar), business, or another applicable field
  • Strong communication skills — verbal, presentation, and written — with the ability to work effectively alongside an experienced internal counterpart without stepping on their role
  • An engaging speaking style and the ability to adapt communication across audiences, from operations staff to executive leadership
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, presentation, and analytical skills
  • Professional experience in the energy efficiency industry
  • An understanding of systems found in commercial and industrial facilities
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects while meeting deliverable deadlines and budgets
  • Ability to effectively distill and convey complex ideas into concise conversation/emails
  • Comfortable managing projects and workflows with variable levels of ambiguity
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft 365 software including Word and Excel
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 20% of the time
  • Interest in sustainability and passionate about making a meaningful impact on the environment. Preferred skills, education and experience

Preferred skills, education and experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP), or Certified Practitioner in Energy Management Systems (CP EnMS)
  • Exposure to continuous improvement frameworks such as Lean, Six Sigma, or ISO 50001
  • Direct experience delivering SEM programs alongside an existing customer energy management function
