Position Overview

Caterpillar is seeking a Salesforce Software Engineer to design, develop, implement, test, and maintain Salesforce solutions that support digital platforms, customer experiences, dealer ecosystems, and enterprise business processes.

The successful candidate will have hands-on experience developing Salesforce solutions using Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Salesforce Flow, APIs, integrations, data modeling, and security. This role requires strong software engineering practices and the ability to build scalable, reliable Salesforce solutions in an enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

Salesforce Application Development

  • Design, develop, implement, test, and maintain Salesforce solutions using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Develop Salesforce applications using:
    • Apex
    • Lightning Web Components (LWC)
    • Visualforce
    • JavaScript
    • SOQL/SOSL
    • Salesforce APIs
  • Configure and customize Salesforce across:
    • Sales Cloud
    • Service Cloud
    • Experience Cloud
    • Marketing Cloud
    • Data Cloud
  • Develop declarative solutions using Salesforce Flow, validation rules, custom objects, record-triggered automation, approval processes, and platform configuration.
  • Develop integrations between Salesforce and enterprise applications using REST, SOAP, Platform Events, middleware, and event-driven architecture.
  • Participate in solution architecture, code reviews, technical documentation, release planning, and platform optimization.

Technical Problem Solving

  • Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into scalable Salesforce solutions.
  • Troubleshoot Apex, LWC, automation, integration, data, deployment, and performance issues.
  • Optimize Salesforce security and access controls using:
    • Profiles
    • Permission Sets
    • Permission Set Groups
    • Sharing Rules
    • Role Hierarchy
    • Field-Level Security
  • Automate business processes using Salesforce Flow and other platform automation tools.
  • Apply Salesforce development best practices, design patterns, and secure software engineering standards.

Integration & API Development

  • Design and develop integrations between Salesforce and external enterprise applications.
  • Work with REST and SOAP APIs.
  • Utilize Salesforce APIs and Platform Events.
  • Work with middleware and event-driven integration architectures.
  • Troubleshoot integration and data synchronization issues.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Salesforce Administrators, Architects, QA Engineers, DevOps Engineers, system analysts, and business stakeholders.
  • Gather and refine functional and technical requirements.
  • Communicate solution designs, technical approaches, project updates, and platform capabilities.
  • Participate in Agile sprint planning, standups, backlog refinement, testing, release readiness, and production support.

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Develop and execute unit, integration, regression, and user-acceptance testing.
  • Maintain Apex test coverage.
  • Support testing of integrations and asynchronous processes.
  • Participate in Salesforce DevOps and CI/CD practices.
  • Ensure compliance with Salesforce security, governance, coding, and development standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to Salesforce development standards and reusable components.
  • Improve business processes through Salesforce automation, integrations, and data-quality improvements.
  • Research and implement new Salesforce platform capabilities and technologies.
  • Support technical documentation, knowledge sharing, and mentoring when applicable.

  • Platform Developer I
  • Platform Developer II

Education & Experience

  • 2–4 years of relevant Salesforce Software Engineering/Development experience
  • Bachelor's degree not required
  • Salesforce certification is preferred but not mandatory.

Work Model: Hybrid, initially 1–2 days onsite per week.

Candidates must be comfortable with the possibility that the position could transition to full-time onsite in the future.

Local Candidate Requirement

Local candidates are preferred.

If a candidate is not currently local but is willing to relocate at their own expense and be onsite from Day 1, this must be clearly stated on the resume.

Round 2: Panel interview with multiple team members/stakeholders

Contract Details

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Maximum Rate: $45/hour
  • Employment Type: Contract

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with:

Salesforce + Apex + LWC + Salesforce Flow + APIs/Integrations + SOQL + Salesforce Security + CI/CD/DevOps

The candidate should also be able to explain their recent Salesforce projects, specific development responsibilities, integrations, and solutions they personally implemented.
