Quick overview
Job description
Why work for Brennan?
At Brennan, we aim to lead, not follow. One of the ways we do this is through an open diverse culture that values performance, where anyone in the team can bring new ideas to the table and see them thrive. Our people are empowered, considerate, supportive, trusting and accepting, they are the cornerstone of the business. Because of this approach, we have become the largest Australian owned systems integrator in Australia and continue to grow.
Brennan offers an excellent remuneration package and benefits including:
- A focus on health and well-being - social club, sporting teams, health checks, poker, trivia nights and more!
- A strong culture underpinned by values that are truly lived every day
- An environment that embraces learning and development of all employees
- Flexibility to work in the way that brings out the best in you
- High levels of reward and recognition for overachieving.
platforms and standards, and the domain squads inside each business unit, which build the modules their own business needs.
The role is deployed, not central. The engineer works inside a service line for the duration of an engagement, builds the first solution alongside that team using the Foundry's standard patterns and pipeline, and leaves the
team able to build the next one without Foundry involvement. Success is measured by what the business unit ships and adopts.
The role also owns the adoption and outcome measures for the service lines in scope. Those measures are what allow the business to prioritise where AI and automation investment goes next, and to retire tooling that is not
being used.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
In your role you will be responsible for:
- Deploying the Foundry's solution patterns
- Assessing incoming service line demand against the four Foundry solution patterns - Personal Productivity
- (Cowork skills), Beacon Modules, Brennan Apps and Third-party Products - and recommending the pattern that fits, with the trade-off documented at intake where more than one applies.
- Building the first solution in each engagement hands-on with the service line team, through the standard pipeline: submit, AI review, concept approval, spec, build, sprint board.
- Ensuring every deployment complies with Brennan's architectural rules, environment ladder (dev, incubation, production, external), change process and AI guardrails.
- Ensuring all development undertaken during an engagement follows Brennan's approved Software Development Lifecycle, including architecture, source control, peer review, testing, security assessment, change management, deployment and support handover requirements.
- Confirming, before any build starts, that the capability does not already exist in the business, in an existing platform, or in a product Brennan already pays for.
- Building capability inside the business unit
- Onboarding and supporting service line representatives and SPECIal Coders in the business units in scope, in conjunction with the central enablement programme and buddy system.
- Establishing the practical mechanics a domain squad needs to build for itself: repository access, pull request review, publishing standards, documentation and support handover.
- Producing a written handover for every engagement that sets out what was built, who owns it, how it is supported and what the squad can now do unaided.
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
To succeed in this role, you will have the following experience and competencies.
- Demonstrated hands-on delivery experience at L2 or L3 engineering level, with a track record of shipping working software into a production environment.
- Proficiency in Python, and practical experience building web applications on a modern framework such as Django, including relational database design and REST or OpenAPI integration.
- Experience building, publishing and supporting AI-assisted tooling - for example agent skills, retrieval- based assistants or workflow automation - or the demonstrated ability to acquire it quickly.
- Competence with Git-based workflows, pull request review, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, including application hosting, identity, secrets management and pipelines.
- Understanding of secure development practice, data classification and the controls that apply to customer- adjacent systems.
- The ability to work independently inside a team that is not your own, and to be useful to that team quickly.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain a technical trade-off to a non- technical business owner and to decline a request with a clear reason.
