Job Description

The System Engineer Level 3 provides senior level systems engineering, technical leadership, and infrastructure support across complex enterprise environments. This role supports system architecture development, systems integration, configuration management, and operational engineering activities. The engineer will lead requirements analysis, system design, technical planning, and lifecycle management while also providing hands on expertise in RedHat Linux, VMware, Splunk, and Ansible automation. Key Responsibilities Linux, Virtualization, and Infrastructure Engineering
• Configure, manage, harden, and troubleshoot RedHat Linux operating systems.
• Install and load operating system software; maintain system integrity; validate configurations.
• Configure and maintain network components and implement OS enhancements that improve reliability and performance.
• Provide senior level technical support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of complex IT systems.
• Optimize system operations and resource utilization; perform system capacity analysis and planning.
• Support the resolution of dispatch system issues and hardware problems throughout the full lifecycle. Virtualization & Automation
• Provide extensive hands on support with VMware virtualization platforms, including configuration, performance optimization, and lifecycle management.
• Use modern automation and configuration tools such as Splunk and Ansible to enhance monitoring, orchestration, and system consistency. Systems Engineering & Architecture Leadership
• Analyze user requirements, concepts of operations (CONOPS), and system architectures to develop detailed system requirements and specifications.
• Lead systems engineering efforts, ensuring alignment with organizational architectures (DoDAF, SOA).
• Develop technical documentation including System Engineering Plans, requirements specifications, Interface Control Documents, and system design documentation.
• Provide technical direction for system development, engineering, interfacing, integration, and testing across hardware/software components.
• Guide the integration of new system designs and technologies into ongoing operations.
• Conduct feasibility studies and recommend alternative approaches or system concepts.
• Coordinate action items from CCBs, design reviews, program reviews, and test events requiring cross disciplinary interaction.
• Ensure the technical integrity of all systems engineering deliverables and baseline configurations. Verification, Validation & Lifecycle Management
• Define evaluation criteria and verification methods for system/subsystem testing.
• Prepare or assess system integration and test plans.
• Support DoD and Government certification and accreditation processes.
• Maintain configuration control throughout the system lifecycle.
• Assess system risks, determine probability and consequences, and support mitigation planning. Architecture, Interfaces & Operational Views
• Implement operational, system, and technical views following DoDAF standards.
• Capture interface designs in standardized formats; manage interface data repositories.
• Support the creation of operational concepts, scenarios, and end to end flow analysis. Information Assurance & Security Engineering
• Develop derived requirements for IA services including confidentiality, integrity, non repudiation, and availability.
• Support IA mechanisms such as authentication, access control, accountability, and cryptographic implementations. Qualifications Required
• Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph — No exceptions.
• 20 years of systems engineering experience supporting government or DoD programs, including leadership of SE efforts.
• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related technical discipline.
– Candidates without a bachelor’s degree may substitute five (5) additional years of systems engineering experience.
• Expertise with RedHat Linux, VMware, Ansible, and Splunk.
• Experience leading systems engineering planning, documentation, and integration efforts.
• Strong understanding of DoDAF architectures and system-of-systems integration.
• Ability to manage system requirements and derived requirements throughout the lifecycle.
• Excellent communication skills including interaction with government leadership, senior executives, and multi-disciplinary teams. Preferred
• Experience developing SOA solutions.
• Experience with risk management, quantitative system performance analysis, and lifecycle trade studies.
• Familiarity with DoD certification/accreditation processes.
