Job Description About the Role

The Group Manager - Sustainability provides strategic leadership for MLA's sustainability research and development portfolio, that includes investments in the Biogenic Carbon Cycle, Climate resilience, Environmental Credentials and the Beef and Sheep Sustainability Frameworks. These initiatives aim to enhance the profitability, resilience and environmental performance of Australia's red meat and livestock industry.

Leading a high performing team, the role oversees key sustainability programs, fosters industry wide collaboration, and ensures investment outcomes deliver measurable benefits for producers while supporting MLA's 2030 strategic goal of contributing to Australia's net zero ambitions.

Key responsibilities for the role are:
  • Lead MLA's Sustainability portfolio, driving research, development and innovation programs aligned to industry and organisational priorities.
  • Develop and execute a strategic vision that delivers measurable sustainability outcomes for industry.
  • Lead, coach and develop a high performing team, fostering a collaborative and values driven culture.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with industry, research organisations, commercial partners and key stakeholders.
  • Identify and leverage emerging trends, technologies and innovation opportunities to maximise industry impact.
  • Oversee investment, governance, monitoring and evaluation of programs to ensure delivery of strategic objectives and return on investment.
  • Manage budgets and resources to optimise the use of levy, government and commercial funds.
  • Drive adoption, commercialisation and revenue generating opportunities that create value for producers and the red meat supply chain.
Our ideal Group Manager - Sustainability has:
  • Significant experience in research and development for sustainability.
  • Significant producer consultation and collaboration skills to develop a producer centric sustainability program.
  • Broad understanding of the Australian red meat and livestock industry.
  • Extensive experience in leading and developing high performing teams.
