Siemens CNC Controls Engineer

Shillito Group are recruiting for a client looking to add an experienced Siemens CNC Controls Engineer for an established client in Sheffield.

This is a hands on engineering role working with CNC machine tools, Siemens Sinumerik controls, PLCs and drives.

You'll be involved in setting machines up, commissioning them, getting everything talking to each other properly, and fault finding when something isn't doing what it should.

There will also be travel to customer sites for installation, commissioning and technical support.

What you'll be doing:

• Commissioning CNC machines using Siemens Sinumerik controls
• Programming and modifying Siemens PLCs using STEP 7 and TIA Portal
• Setting up CNC controls, drives, servo motors and machine parameters
• Fault finding across controls, electrics, hydraulics and pneumatics
• Testing machines before they go into production
• Working with sensors, encoders, motors and safety systems
• Reading electrical and mechanical drawings to diagnose issues
• Supporting customers with installations, breakdowns and technical problems

What we're looking for:

You'll need solid experience with Siemens controlled CNC machinery and be comfortable working on the controls side of the machine, not just operating it.

Experience with the following would be ideal:

• Siemens Sinumerik
• TIA Portal
• STEP 7
• PLC programming
• CNC parameterisation
• Servo drives and motors
• Electrical fault finding
• Machine tool commissioning

We need you to understand how CNC machines work and how the controls, electrical systems and mechanical elements all fit together.

This could suit someone currently working as a Controls Engineer, Commissioning Engineer, CNC Service Engineer, Machine Tool Engineer or PLC Engineer.
