Staff Engineer / QA Lead - SFCC

Lead the quality engineering workstream for a Salesforce B2C Commerce delivery pod while remaining an active hands-on QA automation engineer. Personally design, develop, execute and maintain Playwright/TypeScript tests, perform functional and exploratory testing, execute JMeter performance tests, and investigate complex defects. Alongside this individual contribution, own test strategy, team coordination, coverage, quality metrics and release-readiness recommendations.

Key responsibilities

Quality Leadership & Delivery Ownership

• Own pod-level test planning, estimation, in-sprint quality gates, regression readiness and the quality sign-off recommendation for releases.

• Define coverage across .com storefront, administrative tools, Business Manager, Kognitiv/MPP integrations, APIs and backend data flows.

• Lead defect triage, prioritize quality risks and monitor defect leakage, automation reliability and release-readiness indicators.

• Mentor and coordinate QA engineers while personally implementing automation, executing critical test scenarios and resolving difficult testing or production issues.

Automation Framework & Load Testing

• Own and actively develop the existing Playwright/TypeScript automation framework: write and review test scripts, enhance Page Object Model (POM) components and reusable utilities, debug flaky tests, and maintain CI/CD execution.

• Personally automate high-priority end-to-end and regression scenarios while assigning and reviewing other automation work; execute manual and exploratory tests when needed.

• Develop, maintain and execute JMeter load-test scripts; analyze throughput, response times and failures, and collaborate with engineers on performance improvements.

SFCC Functional & End-to-End Testing

• Validate end-to-end shopping journeys across the .com storefront and administrative tools, including product discovery, promotions, cart, checkout, payments, orders and customer communications.

• Use SFCC Business Manager modules and configurations to prepare and verify product, pricing, promotion, inventory and customer test data.

• Validate loyalty and payment-related scenarios involving Kognitiv and MPP, including required test-data configuration.

• Verify backend data setup and outcomes through APIs, browser developer tools, network traces, consumer data checks and data-layer inspection.

Quality & Operational Collaboration

• Own End-to-End Quality: Drive and actively participate in functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing across SFCC storefront (.com) and administrative applications. Ensure adequate coverage of critical business journeys, integrations, and negative scenarios.

• Drive Automation & Quality Engineering: Personally contribute to Playwright/TypeScript automation development and maintenance while guiding the team on framework standards, test coverage, execution reliability, and defect prevention.

• Lead Defect Triage & Resolution: Partner with development leads to investigate complex defects, establish root causes, prioritize fixes, and validate remediation. Analyze defect trends and leakage to identify opportunities for quality improvement.

• Own Release Quality & Readiness: Establish and validate release quality gates, oversee regression and smoke testing, and coordinate production verification. Provide clear recommendations on release readiness, outstanding defects, and associated risks.

• Drive Performance & Data Validation: Lead and participate in JMeter-based load testing, performance analysis, API verification, and data-layer validation. Collaborate with development and SRE teams to resolve performance bottlenecks and integration issues.

• Documentation & Operational Handover: Ensure test plans, automation assets, execution evidence, defect reports, and release quality summaries are maintained. Coordinate QA knowledge transfer and operational handover with development and SRE teams.

• Use approved AI-assisted tools responsibly for test design, scripting and debugging, with human validation of all outputs.

Required experience and technical capabilities

• 8 10 years of software QA experience, including recent hands-on automation engineering and at least 2 years leading QA delivery or engineers.

• Strong, recent hands-on Playwright and TypeScript experience, including personally creating and maintaining automation scripts and owning a POM-based framework and CI/CD execution.

• Experience with end-to-end retail eCommerce testing, APIs, data validation, browser diagnostics and manual exploratory testing.

• Hands-on JMeter load-testing experience, including personally developing scripts, executing tests, analyzing results and investigating bottlenecks.

• Experience using TestRail or comparable test management tools and driving defect/release quality processes.

• Ability to lead QA planning, coordinate with technical and business partners, coach engineers and resolve cross-team blockers..

Retail domain knowledge (nice to have)

Understand the customer journey from product discovery through purchase and order confirmation. Apply working knowledge of pricing, inventory, promotions, coupons, payments, tax, shipping, rewards, subscriptions, cancellations, fulfillment, and customer communications when implementing or validating changes. Learn the relevant system dependencies rather than treating each ticket as an isolated code change.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience testing Salesforce B2C Commerce Cloud/SFCC Business Manager configuration and data setup.

• Experience with Kognitiv and MPP integrations, loyalty flows and payment processing scenarios.

• Knowledge of consumer databases, data-layer verification and SFCC jobs, services, OCAPI/SCAPI.

• Exposure to Datadog, BrowserStack, GitLab and AI-assisted test development tools.

Nice to Have

• Salesforce B2C Commerce and retail domain certifications or equivalent project experience.

• Experience with React-based storefronts, React Native or composable commerce modernization.
