Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to join our collaborative Reporting & Financial Management team. You will play a key role in delivering accurate statutory and regulatory reporting, maintaining strong financial controls and supporting month-end and year-end processes.

  • Deliver accurate and timely statutory and regulatory reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a strong financial control environment through effective balance sheet management, reconciliations and review processes.
  • Support the accurate accounting and reporting of intercompany transactions, recharges and financial information across group entities.
  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support audits, reporting requirements and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with teams across PIC to support business objectives, regulatory requirements and the delivery of high-quality financial information.
  • Demonstrate PIC's values in all aspects of the role, promoting collaboration, accountability, integrity and high standards of performance.

Specific accountabilities assigned to the role of Financial Accountant within the Reporting & Financial Management team

  • Own the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all activities are delivered accurately, completely and in line with agreed reporting timetables.
  • Manage accounting for the Service Company, including accruals, prepayments, intercompany transactions, recharges and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Perform detailed balance sheet reviews, investigate reconciling items and resolve issues in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the delivery of accurate financial reporting through the preparation, review and analysis of accounting entries and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare statutory accounts and supporting disclosures under UK GAAP and IFRS, incorporating feedback from reviewers and stakeholders as required.
  • Prepare PSA, ONS and other regulatory reporting submissions, ensuring completeness, accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Support the Group Reporting team by preparing notes submissions, reconciliations and reporting packs to meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Coordinate external audit activities, responding to audit queries, providing supporting documentation and maintaining effective relationships with auditors and third-party service providers.
  • Maintain a strong financial control environment through robust reconciliations, reviews, documentation and adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Utilise advanced Excel and financial reporting systems, including FCCS, Smart View and Oracle, to analyse data, prepare reports and support decision-making.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and implement scalable, technology-enabled improvements to enhance control, reporting quality and operational efficiency.
  • Provide support across the wider Finance function, including back-up support for Accounts Payable and other team activities where required.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with finance and non-finance stakeholders to support business objectives and reporting requirements.
  • Take ownership of personal and professional development, maintaining technical accounting knowledge and continuously enhancing reporting, analytical and stakeholder management skills.

Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of statutory accounts preparation and delivery under both UK GAAP and IFRS reporting requirements.
  • Strong understanding of intercompany accounting, cost allocations and group recharges.
  • Sound knowledge of balance sheet reconciliation and financial control principles.
  • Understanding of external audit processes and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and finance reporting systems, including FCCS and Smart View.
  • Good knowledge of ONS reporting requirements

Skills

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or nearing qualification with expected completion within 12 months.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and deliver practical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to analyse large volumes of data and produce clear, accurate reporting and commentary.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise work to meet reporting deadlines and business objectives.
  • Ability to work within established policies, controls and procedures while maintaining compliance.

Experience

  • Experience preparing a full set of statutory accounts and supporting disclosures.
  • Experience managing intercompany accounting and service company recharges.
  • Experience completing balance sheet reviews and resolving reconciling items.
  • Experience coordinating external audits, responding to audit queries and working with third-party service providers.
  • Experience using advanced Excel and financial reporting systems such as FCCS, Smart View or Oracle.
  • Experience working within a regulated financial services or insurance environment.
