A career with Viva Energy is more than just a job. It’s a chance to join a group of people dedicated to supporting Australia’s evolving energy and convenience needs. We’re a leading retail, industrial and energy business, and we’ve been helping Australians reach their destination for more than 120 years.

Our plans for the future support Australia’s energy transition to sustainable, lower carbon energy solutions.  Through our acquisitions of Coles Express and OTR, we provide Australians with outstanding convenience.

At the heart of our plans is people power. People who want to grow and evolve with us. People with new perspectives, energy and passion to drive Viva Energy and their careers forward.

At Viva Energy, we play a critical role in supplying the energy Australians rely on every day. We are currently seeking a motivated and safety-focused Shift Operator to join our team at the Lara LPG Terminal, a 24-hour, 7-day operation supporting the safe storage and distribution of LPG across Victoria.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced operator or trade-qualified professional who enjoys working in a dynamic industrial environment, solving operational challenges, and contributing to the safe and reliable performance of a critical energy asset.

This is a permanent full-time role, autonomously working onsite with rotating shift work

Key Responsibilities

As a Shift Operator, you will work autonomously across day and night shifts on a rotating roster while collaborating closely with the Terminal Manager and fellow Shift Operators to achieve site objectives.

You will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Lara LPG Storage Terminal, ensuring product quality, coordinating product movements, maintaining site security, and supporting continuous operational excellence.

This is a hands-on operational role requiring sound judgment, strong technical capability, and an unwavering commitment to safety.

You will:

  • Operate and monitor LPG storage and terminal infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable operations.
  • Coordinate product movements and maintain product quality standards.
  • Conduct routine operational inspections, safety checks, and equipment monitoring activities.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot operational issues to maintain continuous terminal performance.
  • Complete accurate operational record keeping, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Manage the safe loading of road tankers in the LPG loading gantry.
  • Prioritise daily activities and make informed operational decisions within established procedures.
  • Support maintenance and capital project activities, including contractor management and permit-to-work processes.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of employees and contractors carrying out maintenance and project work.
  • Maintain terminal security and emergency response preparedness at all times.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture focused on safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Ideally trade qualification or technical background (preferred).
  • Experience operating industrial plant, process equipment, or working within a related heavy industry environment.
  • Ideally experienced with gantry management.
  • Robust troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and confidently in an autonomous operational environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Effective time management and organisational abilities.
  • A collaborative team-focused approach.
  • A demonstrated commitment to Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) principles.
  • The flexibility to work a rotating roster including day and night shifts.
