Senior Firewall, VPN & DMZ Network Engineer Location: Norfolk, VA Description: On-site in Norfolk, VA Our client seeks a Firewall, VPN, and DMZ Network Engineer to support the SMIT program for the United States Navy. The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining secure network infrastructure, including firewalls, VPNs, and DMZ configurations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with network security technologies and protocols, and be able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure the security and reliability of the network environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain firewall, VPN, and DMZ configurations to protect network assets and data.
  • Monitor network traffic and security events to identify and respond to potential threats.
  • Collaborate with network engineers, security analysts, and other stakeholders to implement security solutions.
  • Conduct security assessments and vulnerability scans to identify weaknesses and recommend remediation.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for network security issues.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in network security.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in network engineering, with a focus on firewall, VPN, and DMZ technologies.
  • Experience with major firewall vendors (e.g., Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet).
  • Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, etc.) and security protocols (IPSec, SSL/TLS, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and design principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance with polygraph required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud-based security solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
  • Experience with SIEM solutions (e.g., Splunk, QRadar).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
