Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

The Domain Architect - Fixed Voice and Interconnect is responsible for the end to end architecture, evolution, and technical governance of Fixed Voice platforms and services, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with business strategy and industry standards. Acting as the technical authority across legacy and next generation voice technologies, the role drives roadmap development, solution design, and complex transformation initiatives within the Fixed Voice and Interconnect domain.

Your day to day will consist of
  • Own and maintain end to end Fixed Voice and Interconnect architectures, covering current, transitional, and target states across domestic and international environments.
  • Define and evolve the Fixed Voice technology roadmap aligned with business strategy, regulatory requirements, and network evolution.
  • Drive key architectural decisions for platform modernisation, consolidation, and new product and service development.
  • Provide architectural leadership for complex initiatives including network transformation, decommissioning, and resilience improvements.
  • Review and approve high and low level designs, enforcing architectural standards, principles, and best practices.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, Security, Commercial teams, vendors, and international carriers to deliver end to end voice outcomes.
  • Ensure architectures meet availability, performance, security, and compliance obligations, and lead improvements from incident and post incident reviews.
What makes you perfect for the role
  • Extensive experience in Fixed Voice architecture within carrier and/or large enterprise environments;
  • Strong understanding of international and domestic interconnect voice routing models, SIP trunking, and network protocols (SIP, Diameter, TLS, etc);
  • Knowledge of regulatory obligations impacting access, interconnect and international voice services;
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear architectural guidance for senior stakeholders;
  • Exposure to virtualised or cloud hosted SBC and voice platforms;
  • Strong hands on architectural experience with Ribbon solutions (PSX, SBCs, C20) or equivalent carrier grade platforms;
  • Strong problem solving, risk management, and decision making capability in regulated environments;
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and vendor management skills.
What's in it for you?
  • Competitive remuneration and employee discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected' days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever's important to you.
  • We support growing families with inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
  • Direct your own development and build future ready skills with Optus U's industry focused micro credentials, developed with La Trobe and Macquarie Universities.
  • Build meaningful connections through employee led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 - in person, by phone, SMS, or video.
