We are seeking a Cloud Security Engineer to join a specialist team responsible for strengthening cloud security across a complex technology environment. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, developing and automating security capabilities across AWS and the broader development ecosystem. Working closely with cloud, cyber security and software engineering teams, you will help embed security into the software development lifecycle, enabling development teams to build and deploy secure, reliable applications. You will contribute to the development of scalable security solutions across vulnerability management, detection engineering, incident response, identity and access management, and network security. This is an opportunity to apply your software engineering skills to meaningful security challenges, influence technical direction and help shape the evolution of cloud security capabilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain automated security solutions across AWS and the development ecosystem.

  • Write and test code to automate cloud security processes and improve operational efficiency.

  • Develop and implement security guardrails that enable secure application design, development and deployment.

  • Partner with cyber security teams to understand emerging threats, identify vulnerabilities and implement effective remediation strategies.

  • Provide technical guidance to development teams on cloud security principles, secure development practices and risk mitigation.

  • Contribute to security capabilities across vulnerability management, detection engineering, incident response, IAM and network security.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to enhance cloud security services and capabilities.

  • Promote engineering best practices across automation, DevOps, documentation and operational processes.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across technology and engineering to deliver scalable, self-service security solutions.

Skills and experience

  • Software development: Experience developing software using languages such as Python, including writing tests to validate code quality and functionality.

  • AWS cloud engineering: Experience designing and deploying scalable, reliable and secure applications within AWS.

  • Cloud networking: A solid understanding of networking fundamentals and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP and HTTP.

  • Security knowledge: Experience or a strong interest in vulnerability management, incident response, detection engineering, identity and access management, or related cloud security domains.

  • Technical communication: The ability to document technical solutions clearly and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Problem-solving: A proactive approach to identifying risks, improving processes and developing practical technical solutions.

Experience and qualifications

  • At least 2 years of software development experience.

  • At least 3 years of AWS experience.

  • A tertiary qualification in IT or equivalent industry experience.

  • AWS Security certification is desirable.

  • AWS Architecture Associate certification is desirable.

About you

You are an engineer first, with a genuine interest in security and a desire to build solutions that make a measurable difference. You enjoy automating complex processes, challenging existing approaches and finding ways to improve the security and productivity of engineering teams. You are curious about emerging technologies, committed to continuous learning and comfortable sharing your knowledge with others. You value collaboration, take pride in engineering quality and understand the importance of balancing strong security controls with practical development needs.
