As Engineering Manager for Client Data & Lifecycle, you will lead a highly technical team responsible for the systems that manage and distribute critical client and business data across Scalable Capital.

The team owns client master data and the APIs used to manage it, data quality, relationships between clients, and selected non-client master data. Its platform is central to the client journey and enables teams across the organisation to work with consistent, reliable, and accessible data.

You will lead a team of five backend engineers and combine people leadership with strong technical leadership. You will guide architecture and execution, create clarity in complex and ambiguous problem spaces, and help the team build foundational capabilities that scale with Scalable Capital’s growth.

The team’s upcoming focus includes preparing the platform to support retirement accounts and enabling expansion into additional European markets. You will also help evolve client data into reusable platform capabilities and enable asynchronous data replication across the organisation.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of backend engineers, supporting their growth, performance, and long-term careers.

  • Provide technical direction across databases, event-driven systems, microservices, APIs, and AWS-based infrastructure.

  • Guide architectural decisions that improve data integrity, consistency, scalability, performance, and operational reliability.

  • Own the technical delivery of platform capabilities required for new products, including retirement accounts and additional European markets.

  • Drive the evolution of client data into reusable, well-defined platform capabilities for teams across the organisation.

  • Enable reliable asynchronous data replication and integration patterns across engineering teams.

  • Work closely with Product, Compliance, Operations, and Client Support to translate business and regulatory needs into effective technical solutions.

  • Create clarity and prioritisation in ambiguous problem spaces, balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform health.

  • Raise engineering standards around software design, testing, observability, operational ownership, and continuous improvement.

  • Encourage innovation and pragmatic adoption of modern engineering practices.

  • Define goals and contribute to the Client Technology Tribe’s technical and organisational roadmap.

  • Participate in hiring and help build a diverse, high-performing engineering organisation.

You bring:

  • Several years of professional experience in software engineering, including experience with complex backend or distributed systems.

  • Previous experience managing and developing software engineering teams.

  • Strong technical expertise in database-backed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.

  • Practical experience designing and operating scalable, reliable services in AWS or a comparable cloud environment.

  • Experience making architectural decisions involving data consistency, API design, asynchronous communication, and system scalability.

  • A strong understanding of software development practices, testing, observability, and production operations.

  • The ability to provide technical leadership without needing to be hands-on in day-to-day implementation.

  • Strong analytical thinking and the ability to navigate ambiguity and make sound trade-offs.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence across teams and explain complex technical topics clearly.

  • Professional proficiency in English.

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Kotlin, Java, Spring Boot.

  • Experience working with master data, data platforms, data quality, or data replication.

  • Experience in fintech, banking, or other regulated environments.

  • Experience building platforms used by multiple product or engineering teams.

  • Familiarity with compliance-sensitive client data and lifecycle processes.

Be part of one of the fastest-growing and most visible fintech companies in Europe, creating innovative services that have a substantial impact on the lives of our clients.

Work with an international, diverse, inclusive, and ever-growing team that loves creating the best products for our clients.

Work from our centrally located offices in the heart of Munich or Berlin, surrounded by vibrant restaurants, cafés, and convenient amenities, or choose to work remotely within Germany if eligible for the role.

  • Be productive with the latest hardware and tools.

  • Learn and grow through in-house knowledge-sharing and career-development sessions, as well as your individual Education Budget.

  • Learn and experience German culture through free German language classes.

  • Receive international relocation support if required.

  • Take advantage of the opportunity to work from abroad.

  • Benefit from an attractive compensation package and company pension scheme.

  • Receive a monthly contribution of 50% towards the Deutschland Jobticket.

  • Enjoy a complimentary subscription to Scalable Capital’s PRIME+ Broker.

  • Access flexible and discounted sports activities through Urban Sports Club.
