Quick Overview
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct deep architecture reviews across AWS services (MSK, ECS, CloudWatch, Glue, S3, EC2, Lambda, Connect, Config, CloudTrail, ELB, SQS, MQ).
- Identify optimization levers: right-sizing, Graviton migration, Spot, Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, lifecycle policies, and Intelligent-Tiering.
- Evaluate non-production environments for shutdown windows, duplication, and shared-services consolidation.
- Assess emerging AWS technologies (Graviton, Outposts, Marketplace) for cost-conscious adoption.
- Produce monthly recommendation reports with quantified savings and implementation roadmaps.
Required Skills
- Expert hands-on AWS across compute, storage, networking, data, and observability.
- Deep knowledge of AWS pricing models, Cost Explorer, Compute Optimizer, Trusted Advisor, and Cost & Usage Report (CUR).
- Containerization (ECS, Fargate, EKS), serverless (Lambda), streaming (MSK, Kinesis), and ETL (Glue).
- AWS Well-Architected Framework reviews with emphasis on the cost and performance pillars.
- Terraform and CloudFormation Infrastructure-as-Code familiarity.
- 1. AWS Architecture & Domain Expertise
-
Compute & Containers: Hands-on experience optimizing ECS, Fargate, EC2, and Lambda, including container sizing and workload migration strategies (e.g., migrating x86 workloads to AWS Graviton).
-
Data, Streaming & Messaging: Expertise in high-throughput architectures using MSK (Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka), ActiveMQ/RabbitMQ (AWS MQ), SQS, Kinesis, and serverless ETL with AWS Glue.
-
Storage Lifecycle Management: Advanced knowledge of S3 storage classes (Intelligent-Tiering, Glacier), lifecycle policies, and retention rules to eliminate waste.
-
Observability & Governance: Proficiency with CloudWatch, AWS Config, CloudTrail, and ELB to audit system usage and identify unused or underutilized assets.
- 2. AWS FinOps & Cost Optimization
-
AWS Cost Tooling: Proficiency in analyzing raw telemetry using Cost & Usage Reports (CUR), Cost Explorer, Compute Optimizer, and Trusted Advisor.
-
Financial Commitment Modeling: Strategy design for Savings Plans (Compute & EC2), Reserved Instances (RIs), and leveraging Spot Instances for non-production or fault-tolerant workloads.
-
Resource Optimization: Expertise in right-sizing instances/tasks, identifying non-production shutdown windows (auto-tagging and scheduled stops), and consolidating redundant or duplicate shared services.
Qualifications & Certifications
- 10+ years in cloud engineering or architecture, 6+ years on AWS.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional (required).
- AWS Specialty certification (Data, Security, or Networking) preferred.
