This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced policy and advocacy professional to influence legislative and regulatory developments on behalf of an important international industry.
Reporting to the Policy & Advocacy Director, you will monitor UK and EU policy developments, build strong relationships with policymakers and regulators, and develop clear, evidence-based advocacy materials. Working closely with technical experts and member committees, you will ensure that members’ views and industry expertise are represented throughout the policymaking process.
Key responsibilities will include:

- Managing the organisation’s policy engagement programme across the UK and EU
- Producing policy briefings, consultation responses, position papers and other advocacy materials
- Building effective relationships with policymakers, political representatives, regulators, trade bodies and industry stakeholders
- Identifying opportunities to collaborate with partner organisations and influence policy outcomes
- Representing the organisation and its members at policy events, conferences and committee meetings
- Working closely with internal technical specialists and member committees to develop evidence-based policy positions
- Bringing relevant industry experts directly into discussions with policymakers and regulators
- Supporting committees led by the advocacy department, including those focused on marine regulation, legal matters, contracts, insurance and compliance
- Providing clear and timely internal updates on policy developments
- Producing European policy content for use by the communications team
- Travelling to Brussels and other relevant locations when required
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong experience of UK and EU policy and advocacy, ideally gained within a membership body, trade association, regulator or not-for-profit organisation
- A good understanding of policymaking and regulatory processes in both the UK and EU
- A track record of engaging effectively with government organisations, political representatives and regulators
- Experience producing policy briefings, consultation responses, position papers or similar advocacy materials
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into concise and persuasive content
- Strong verbal communication, influencing and presentation skills
- The confidence to represent an organisation and its members to a wide range of external stakeholders
- The ability to develop trusted relationships with technical experts, committees and senior industry representatives
- The willingness to travel to Brussels and other locations as required
Experience within the maritime, energy or transport sectors would be particularly valuable, although applicants with relevant transferable experience from other complex or highly regulated sectors are also encouraged to apply. Previous experience of working for a trade association or industry body would be advantageous.
This is a varied and influential role offering the opportunity to shape policy engagement across the UK and Europe and ensure that members’ interests are clearly and credibly represented.
