Job Description

Data Scientist III – CRM & Lifecycle Marketing Analytics
Department: Consumer Group — CRM Lifecycle Marketing & Analytics
Location: Remote (United States) — West Coast time zone strongly preferred
Role Type: Contract — 12 months (W2, no C2C)

About Our Client
Our client is a large, well-established technology company in the financial software space, headquartered on the West Coast with teams distributed across the U.S. and internationally. They operate a connected suite of cloud-based products used by consumers and small businesses to manage their financial lives, with a customer base in the tens of millions and several category-leading brands in their portfolio. The organization runs at enterprise scale but has kept a strong culture around experimentation, customer obsession, and data-driven decision making — and is currently in the middle of a significant push to embed AI across both its products and its internal ways of working.

Job Description
  • This is a one-year contract engagement supporting the CRM Lifecycle Marketing & Analytics team inside the client''s Consumer Group, covering a Staff-level employee on leave. You will be the analytics partner to a fast-moving CRM marketing organization — the person marketing stakeholders come to when they need to know whether a campaign worked, why it worked, and what to do next. Day to day, you will be writing complex SQL against large relational datasets, designing and reading out A/B and multivariate tests, building automated dashboards, and turning campaign performance data into recommendations that non-technical marketers can actually act on.
  • The work spans the full customer lifecycle across owned channels — email, push, SMS, in-app messaging — and touches segmentation, personalization, journey analytics, retention, and LTV. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Data Engineering, Finance, and Analytics partners to define the metrics that matter, build the reporting frameworks that track them, and identify where automation and AI-enabled tooling can replace manual, repetitive analysis. Part of the mandate is helping the organization move toward AI-assisted, self-service analytics, so comfort with prompt engineering and validating AI-generated output is a real advantage.
  • The ideal candidate is a senior individual contributor who can operate independently in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment without heavy onboarding. You are equally at home in a query editor and in a room full of marketers, you are genuinely curious about customer
  • behavior, and you have a bias toward finding the insight that changes a decision rather than producing another report nobody reads.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Partner directly with CRM and Lifecycle Marketing stakeholders to define key business metrics and surface opportunities to improve marketing performance.
  • Analyze CRM campaign performance across email, push notifications, SMS, in-app messaging, and other owned channels.
  • Design, execute, and measure A/B and multivariate tests evaluating messaging, timing, targeting, and creative effectiveness.
  • Perform business analysis using statistical methods, explanatory and predictive modeling, and data mining techniques.
  • Build and maintain automated dashboards and reporting solutions for marketing stakeholders.
  • Produce ad hoc analyses and readouts that support day-to-day marketing decision-making.
  • Measure and optimize lifecycle campaigns through segmentation, personalization, and customer journey analytics.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Identify repetitive reporting and insight-generation processes and automate them using AI-enabled tools and workflow automation.
  • Validate AI-generated outputs for accuracy and alignment with business requirements.
  • Ensure data quality, governance, and consistency across reporting frameworks and analytics solutions.
  • Connect CRM initiatives to downstream business outcomes including revenue, retention, loyalty, and engagement.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to less experienced business data analysts as needed.

Required Experience/Skills
  • 7–10 years of experience in data science, marketing analytics, or business analytics.
  • Advanced SQL — writing complex queries to extract, join, and transform large relational datasets. This is the primary technical screen.
  • Hands-on CRM and lifecycle marketing analytics experience, including customer journeys, retention strategy, and lifecycle optimization.
  • Demonstrated experience measuring CRM performance metrics: open rate, CTR, CTOR, conversion rate, unsubscribe rate, churn, retention, LTV, and engagement.
  • Strong working knowledge of statistical analysis, regression, forecasting, A/B testing, and experimental design.
  • Experience with audience segmentation, personalization strategy, and dynamic content optimization.
  • Working knowledge of customer journey analytics, funnel analysis, and cohort analysis.
  • Experience building dashboards and reports in a modern BI tool.
  • Strong data storytelling — the ability to explain complex analytical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven collaboration across Marketing, Finance, Data Engineering, and other cross-functional business teams.
  • Comfort operating independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with minimal ramp-up.

Nice-to-Haves
  • Python (or R) for advanced statistical analysis and automation.
  • Braze or a comparable ESP / customer engagement platform (Iterable, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Airship, CleverTap).
  • Qlik Sense specifically; Tableau or Looker also relevant.
  • Familiarity with ETL and data pipeline tooling — Superglue, Alteryx, Informatica, dbt, or Airflow.
  • Hands-on use of AI tools in an analytics workflow (Cursor, Claude, or similar) and prompt engineering for AI-assisted reporting.
  • Understanding of AI agent workflows and automation applied to business reporting processes.
  • Prior experience inside a large technology or consumer software company.
  • Knowledge of data governance, reporting standards, and KPI frameworks.

Education
  • Bachelor''s degree in Business Analytics, Marketing Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or another quantitative field is required.
  • Master''s degree in Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Marketing Analytics, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience in data analysis or marketing analytics may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.

Pay & Benefits Summary
  • Hourly rate: commensurate with experience (W2 contract).
  • 12-month engagement with a well-known, publicly traded technology company.
  • Fully remote within the United States.
