Job Title: Java Cloud Engineer – Azure / AKS
Location: Phoenix, AZ – Hybrid (Tuesday–Thursday onsite)
Contract: 8 Months Duration 
Rate:Hourly on w2 and C2C contract 
Interview: Onsite interview required in Phoenix, AZ – No exceptions
Assessment: Glider Assessment Required

Job Summary

We are seeking a Mid-Level Java Cloud Engineer with strong experience in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, Azure, AKS, Docker, and GitHub Actions. The ideal candidate will design, develop, deploy, and support scalable cloud-native applications running on Microsoft Azure.

Required Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Java 17+
  • Strong Spring Boot / Spring Boot 3 experience
  • Strong Core Java / Java SE knowledge
  • Experience developing microservices-based applications
  • Strong experience developing RESTful APIs
  • Experience with GraphQL such as Apollo or Spring GraphQL is a plus
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
  • Strong Azure Cloud experience
  • Experience with Azure VNet, private networking, and cloud security
  • Experience with Azure Event Hub
  • Experience with Azure Cosmos DB – MongoDB API
  • Experience with Azure PostgreSQL
  • Strong Docker/containerization experience
  • Experience deploying and managing applications in Kubernetes/AKS
  • Strong experience with GitHub Actions and CI/CD automation
  • Experience with Git and GitHub
  • Experience with CloudSmith is preferred
  • Strong scripting/automation skills using Bash, Python, PowerShell, or similar
  • Experience with Dynatrace for application monitoring/APM
  • Experience with logging and observability tools such as Dynatrace and Mezmo
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native security and secure coding practices

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based cloud applications.
  • Build scalable and resilient microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Develop and integrate RESTful and, where applicable, GraphQL APIs.
  • Deploy and manage applications using Docker and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
  • Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning and application deployment.
  • Work with Azure Event Hub for event-driven architectures.
  • Work with Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, and other cloud data services.
  • Implement secure Azure networking using VNets and private networking.
  • Monitor application performance and availability using Dynatrace.
  • Configure and optimize application logging and observability.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Identify scalability, latency, reliability, and security risks.
  • Reduce technical debt and improve application performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with architects, product owners, and engineering teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and after-hours support rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Azure certification such as AZ-204 or AZ-305
  • Experience with event-driven/streaming architectures
  • Cloud cost optimization experience
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading technical initiatives
  • Experience with distributed and cloud-native systems

Important Requirements

Candidates must be able to work onsite in Phoenix, AZ Tuesday–Thursday and must be available for an onsite interview in Phoenix. No exceptions.
First Glider assessment is required.
