POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Supplier Development Engineer with a strong background in supplier quality, manufacturing, light and heavy fabrication, APQP, and PPAP.

This position is responsible for improving supplier performance by identifying capability and quality gaps, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring suppliers meet quality, cost, and delivery expectations.

The Supplier Development Engineer will evaluate supplier manufacturing capabilities, conduct supplier quality assessments and audits, drive process improvements, support new source and new part introductions, and work directly with suppliers to improve quality and manufacturing performance.

This is a hands-on supplier-facing engineering role requiring strong technical manufacturing knowledge as well as excellent communication and relationship-management skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Evaluate supplier manufacturing capabilities, processes, practices, and procedures.
• Conduct supplier quality assessments and audits.
• Identify supplier capability gaps and implement corrective actions.
• Drive supplier improvements related to quality, cost, and delivery.
• Monitor supplier defect rates and identify areas that could lead to quality issues.
• Develop and implement supplier inspection, testing, and evaluation processes.
• Guide suppliers in reducing defects and improving overall performance.
• Support suppliers through process enhancements, process controls, and quality assurance plans.
• Develop, review, and monitor PPAP documentation and validation activities.
• Support Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
• Support New Source Introduction (NSI), New Part Introduction (NPI), and New Technology Introduction (NTI) activities.
• Evaluate and certify suppliers using established methods and criteria.
• Ensure supplier compliance with manufacturing and quality standards.
• Analyze supplier quality data and use objective information to drive improvement decisions.
• Perform root-cause analysis and support corrective action activities.
• Develop and maintain supplier quality reporting and documentation.
• Work directly with supplier manufacturing facilities and production teams.
• Build effective relationships with suppliers and cross-functional internal teams.
• Support day-to-day tactical projects, processes, and presentations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of relevant Supplier Development, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Quality, or related engineering experience.
• Master's degree candidates may be considered with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another technical discipline.
• Hands-on experience with both light and heavy fabrication.
• Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
• Strong Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) experience.
• Experience with New Source Introduction (NSI), New Part Introduction (NPI), and/or New Technology Introduction (NTI).
• Experience working in manufacturing environments involving complex engineered components.
• Strong supplier quality and supplier development experience.
• Experience evaluating supplier manufacturing capabilities and quality systems.
• Experience developing and implementing corrective actions.
• Knowledge of manufacturing standards, procedures, and process controls.
• Experience evaluating and certifying suppliers.
• Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
• Strong communication and supplier relationship-management skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to perform both strategic and tactical day-to-day work.

FABRICATION EXPERIENCE

Candidates must have experience working with light and heavy fabrication in a manufacturing environment.

Relevant experience may include supplier or manufacturing processes involving fabricated components, welding, complex engineered components, manufacturing process controls, quality inspection, and supplier quality.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENT

This position requires approximately 25–50% travel to supplier locations throughout the United States and Canada.

Candidates must be comfortable working in supplier manufacturing environments. Visits to manufacturing floors will require appropriate PPE.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Location: Mossville / Peoria, IL
• Work Arrangement: 100% onsite
• Typical Hours: Approximately 7:30 AM–4:00 PM
• Contract Duration: 12 months
• Travel: 25–50% domestically and to Canada
• Manufacturing floor visits required
• PPE required when visiting supplier manufacturing facilities
