Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Data Center / Server Infrastructure Technician to support the installation, deployment, cabling, and connectivity of physical server and data center infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have experience performing rack-and-stack activities, installing physical servers, working with PDUs and UPS systems, and cabling servers for network connectivity. This individual must be comfortable working directly with physical infrastructure and have enough Linux/Ubuntu and networking knowledge to bring an Ubuntu server online and verify connectivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Rack and stack physical servers and related data center equipment.
• Install, mount, cable, and connect servers within data center racks.
• Connect servers to appropriate PDUs (Power Distribution Units) and power infrastructure.
• Work around and understand UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems.
• Perform copper and/or fiber network cabling and cable management.
• Cable Ubuntu/Linux servers and successfully bring them onto the network.
• Verify physical network connectivity and troubleshoot basic connectivity issues.
• Identify and connect appropriate network interfaces, switch ports, and power connections.
• Perform basic Ubuntu/Linux configuration necessary to establish network connectivity.
• Troubleshoot physical server, cabling, power, and network connection issues.
• Label and document servers, cables, rack locations, ports, and connections.
• Follow data center procedures and safety standards when installing or servicing equipment.

Required Skills

• Hands-on rack-and-stack experience.
• Experience installing and cabling physical servers.
• Knowledge of PDU and UPS systems.
• Experience with Ethernet/network cabling and basic network connectivity.
• Working knowledge of Ubuntu/Linux servers.
• Ability to physically cable an Ubuntu server, configure or verify its network connection, and get the server online and communicating on the network.
• Basic understanding of IP addressing, NICs/network interfaces, switches, ports, DNS, DHCP, and static IP configuration.
• Ability to troubleshoot physical connectivity, power, and basic network issues.

“Ubuntu/Linux + rack and stack + server cabling + network connectivity” the core combination. Someone who has only done rack-and-stack but cannot configure or troubleshoot the Ubuntu server's network connection would probably be too hardware-focused for what is needed.
