Associate Software Engineer

Overview:
We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Database Engineering organization. This team develops and maintains a suite of database performance monitoring and related applications that help database professionals improve performance and productivity across multiple database platforms.

This role is a good fit for an engineer who enjoys building reliable, secure, and performant enterprise software, working across application layers, and solving customer problems with a collaborative team. You will contribute to product development from understanding requirements through implementation, testing, and delivery, while continuing to grow your technical skills across our products and platforms.

You will help develop and enhance our Database Performance Analyzer solutions, working with experienced engineers, product managers, and other partners to deliver useful capabilities for customers.

Responsibilities:
- Implement, test, and maintain product features across the application stack, with guidance from senior engineers when needed.
- Translate product requirements and technical designs into clear, maintainable code and contribute to design discussions for your areas of work.
- Apply engineering quality practices, including unit and integration testing, thoughtful coding patterns, and appropriate observability.
- Investigate and resolve software defects, participate in code reviews, and help improve the reliability and performance of the product.
- Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, peers, and other stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver customer-focused solutions.
- Collaborate with teammates across products and platforms, share knowledge, and take increasing ownership of features from implementation through release.
- Use AI agents and AI-assisted engineering tools thoughtfully to support software development, while reviewing and validating generated work for correctness, security, and quality.
- Participate in spec-driven development by helping turn requirements into clear specifications, using those specifications to guide implementation and tests, and updating them as solutions evolve.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and 3+ years of software development experience, or a Master’s degree and 2+ years of experience, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience developing software with Java 11+ and the Spring Framework.
Working knowledge of

• JavaScript
• jQuery
• Angular (Nova Framework)
• SQL, and the Tomcat Application Server.

• Ability to contribute to features across frontend and backend layers, with support from the team as appropriate.
• Familiarity with software development fundamentals, including debugging, testing, code review, and source control.
• Exposure to DevOps practices and continuous integration/deployment is a plus.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants or agents in software development is preferred; curiosity and willingness to learn are important.
• Familiarity with spec-driven development—or experience working from written requirements, technical specifications, and acceptance criteria—is preferred.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, product partners, and other stakeholders.
