Job description

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Panthera Grid Partners is a portfolio company of Brookfield, one of the world’s largest owners and operators of renewable power and sustainable solutions.

Panthera Grid Partners delivers reliable, utility-scale solar, wind and energy storage infrastructure to meet America’s growing demand for domestic energy.

With a portfolio exceeding 10 gigawatts, Panthera Grid Partners operates in U.S. power markets where load growth, grid reliability and capital investment are most critical. The company develops, acquires, builds, and operates renewable energy assets with a disciplined, precision-driven focus on execution, performance, and operational integrity.
Through responsible land stewardship and strong local partnerships, Panthera Grid Partners delivers energy projects with respect for land, agriculture, and local priorities, working with landowners and communities to support long-term land value and strengthen regional economies.

Job Summary

The Performance Data Engineer owns the data architecture, pipelines, performance calculation layer, and reporting processes for Panthera Grid’s operating utility-scale solar and battery energy storage portfolio. The role builds and maintains the governed platform used by performance and reliability engineers and serves as the trusted source for reporting delivered to stakeholders at all levels. This position ingests and standardizes SCADA, meteorological, inverter, tracker, revenue meter, and PPA settlement data; implements fleet KPI definitions as versioned and tested code; and delivers fleet-wide reporting through Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.

The Performance Data Engineer holds decision rights on data tooling and architecture for the team and partners closely with, Reliability Engineering, Asset Management, Operations & Maintenance, Commercial Operations, and IT/OT to ensure that data supporting performance decisions is complete, consistent, transparent, and trusted.

Responsibilities

Data Platform and Architecture

·         Own the team’s data platform architecture, including the Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse and Warehouse, and hold decision rights on data tooling.

·         Design and maintain the asset hierarchy, tag mapping, and reporting-oriented time-series storage model for the operating fleet.

·         Integrate SCADA platforms, meteorological feeds, inverter and tracker data, revenue meters, and settlement data through APIs and automated pipelines while supporting existing AWS integrations.

·         Own the asset onboarding pipeline so that adding a new site is a repeatable configuration process rather than a custom project.

·         Lead the digitization of existing tools, workbooks, and manual workflows into standardized, governed solutions that can scale across the portfolio and various asset platforms.

Performance Calculation and Analytics

·         Implement standard fleet KPIs—including availability, performance ratio, weather-adjusted expected energy, degradation, and loss attribution—as versioned, tested code.

·         Build reusable analytical frameworks for degradation analysis, long-term performance projections, and production-loss attribution for interpretation by performance engineers.

·         Validate expected energy production through statistical analysis and comparison with performance models in partnership with Performance Engineering.

·         Supply validated data, tooling, and analysis for root cause investigations, incident reviews, performance guarantee evaluations, and contractual testing.

Reporting and Business Intelligence

·         Own the reporting architecture, including Power BI semantic models, KPI definitions, refresh schedules, access, and distribution.

·         Deliver daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting against budget, P50 forecasts, and contractual guarantees from a single governed source.

·         Develop and maintain dashboards, executive summaries, technical reports, and analytical tools for internal and external stakeholders.

·         Partner with Asset Management and Commercial Operations to quantify operational risks, production impacts, and revenue implications.

·         Support M&A activities by providing the operating data, cost actuals, and analytical tooling used by Asset Management and Finance to build operating expense (OpEx) models, scenario analyses, and portfolio valuations for acquisitions and due diligence.

·         Integrate and maintain day-ahead/real-time (DA/RT) market, settlement, and curtailment data, and provide the data models and reporting that enable Commercial Operations and Asset Management to analyze price, basis, congestion, and settlement exposure.

Data Quality, Governance, and Operations

·         Define and enforce data quality rules, lineage, monitoring, and reconciliation against revenue meter and settlement data.

·         Maintain clear documentation of data flows, calculation logic, KPI definitions, platform architecture, and operating procedures.

·         Automate recurring workflows using Python, SQL, Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, APIs, and related technologies.

·         Monitor platform reliability, troubleshoot data failures, and coordinate resolution with IT/OT, vendors, O&M providers, and internal teams.

·         Stay current with data engineering practices and renewable-energy technologies affecting solar PV, BESS, trackers, inverters, and energy analytics.

·         Identify opportunities to scale reusable data products, diagnostic workflows, and self-service reporting across the portfolio to improve reporting speed, troubleshooting efficiency, consistency, and program scalability.

·         Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, electrical engineering, statistics, physics, meteorology, or another quantitative field, or equivalent relevant experience.

·         At least five years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, business intelligence, or a related technical role; renewable-energy or utility experience is strongly preferred.

·         Advanced proficiency with SQL and Python and demonstrated experience building production-grade, maintainable data pipelines and analytical workflows.

·         Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, lakehouse or warehouse architecture, Power BI semantic models, and data orchestration tools.

·         Experience integrating APIs, SCADA or other operational technology data, time-series datasets, and enterprise business systems.

·         Strong knowledge of data modeling, testing, source control, documentation, lineage, observability, and data-quality practices.

·         Ability to translate business and engineering requirements into scalable data products and explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

·         Professional verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently across multiple priorities.

·         Demonstrated experience modernizing spreadsheet- or script-based processes into scalable, governed data products that improve reporting and operational troubleshooting.

Location: Hybrid in Houston, Texas (4 days in office, Fridays remote).

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Visa sponsorship or transfer visas, including H-1B or L-2, are not available for this position.

Preferred

·         Experience with utility-scale solar PV, battery energy storage systems, renewable asset management, or energy markets.

·         Familiarity with plant performance metrics such as availability, performance ratio, expected energy, degradation, curtailment, and production-loss attribution.

·         Experience with platforms such as AlsoEnergy, Power Factors, OEM monitoring systems, revenue meters, settlements data, or similar sources.

·         Experience with cloud architecture, CI/CD, infrastructure governance, machine learning, predictive analytics, or advanced data science.

·         Experience working with IT/OT security, NERC or utility compliance requirements, and third-party technology providers.

Experience supporting renewable-energy M&A, technical due diligence, or portfolio valuation through operating expense modeling, cost benchmarking, sensitivity analysis, and scenario development.
