Job description

Industry: Banking / Financial Services

Rate: £550-£650 Inside IR35

Location: Sheffield, 3 days a week in office.

About the Role

Essential Consulting are looking for an experienced DDI Subject Matter Expert to join a leading global bank, taking ownership of the design, implementation and optimisation of enterprise DNS, DHCP and IP Address Management (IPAM) infrastructure.

This is a hands-on technical role, requiring deep DDI engineering expertise rather than a purely strategic or architectural background. You'll work across multiple DDI platforms, driving infrastructure modernisation, automation, observability and resilience while ensuring services remain secure, scalable and reliable.

A key part of the role will be leading a comprehensive DDI resilience assessment, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement and providing clear technical recommendations to strengthen the bank's infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead an end-to-end DDI resilience assessment, identifying vulnerabilities, recovery gaps and opportunities to improve availability and operational resilience.

  • Take ownership of DDI initiatives from design and implementation through to integration, troubleshooting and ongoing optimisation.

  • Design, deploy and maintain enterprise DNS architectures, including Anycast DNS solutions.

  • Work hands-on across DDI platforms including Infoblox, Cygna Labs/QIP and EfficientIP, integrating technologies across complex environments.

  • Develop and enhance DNS monitoring and observability capabilities, including DNS Tap, logging, telemetry pipelines and dashboards.

  • Strengthen governance, compliance, security and control frameworks across DNS and IP management services.

  • Integrate DDI infrastructure with Active Directory and secure authentication mechanisms.

  • Collaborate with network engineering teams on BGP, OSPF, routing and switching to support DNS resilience.

  • Support DDI automation through APIs, infrastructure-as-code and orchestration technologies.

  • Troubleshoot complex DNS, DHCP and IPAM issues across distributed enterprise environments.

  • Act as the technical SME and escalation point for DDI infrastructure, providing guidance to engineering teams and senior stakeholders.

What We're Looking For
  • 15+ years' experience in DDI infrastructure, including large-scale enterprise deployments, transformation and resilience initiatives.

  • Strong hands-on engineering expertise across DNS, DHCP and IPAM, with experience using platforms such as Infoblox, Cygna Labs/QIP, EfficientIP or similar.

  • Deep understanding of enterprise DNS architecture, design, implementation and operations.

  • Proven experience designing or deploying Anycast DNS within complex enterprise environments.

  • Strong understanding of networking protocols, particularly BGP and OSPF.

  • Experience with DNS monitoring and observability technologies, including DNS Tap, logging and telemetry.

  • Knowledge of DDI integration with Active Directory and secure authentication.

  • Understanding of governance, compliance and control frameworks within enterprise network services.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across complex, distributed infrastructure.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across technical teams and provide clear recommendations to stakeholders.

Desirable Experience
  • DDI automation and scripting using Python, APIs, Ansible or Terraform.

  • Cloud DNS technologies, including AWS Route 53 and Azure DNS.

  • Experience supporting highly available, globally distributed DNS environments.

  • DNS security technologies and practices, including DNSSEC and DDoS mitigation.

This opportunity would suit a Senior DDI Engineer, DDI Technical Lead or hands-on DDI Architect who enjoys taking technical ownership, solving complex infrastructure challenges and delivering improvements across large-scale enterprise environments.

If you have extensive hands-on DDI experience and a strong background in infrastructure resilience, we'd be keen to hear from you.
