Sr. Backend Engineer / .Net / Microservices / Lambda / AWS / Distributed Sys. / Remote

Our client is a Southern California product engineering company building streaming software for media organizations. Its platform supports live and on-demand content across web, mobile, and connected TV. They are seeking a Senior / Principal .NET Backend Software Engineer to build and improve the services behind their streaming products.
This is a hands-on role focused on C#/.NET, distributed systems, and AWS. You will develop APIs, event-driven services, and content ingestion workflows while improving the reliability and performance of a large backend platform. Principal-level candidates should also have experience leading the architecture of a substantial backend domain.
Responsibilities

• Design and build C#/.NET REST APIs, background workers, asynchronous workflows, and service-to-service integrations.
• Improve microservice architecture, including service boundaries, messaging, retries, circuit breakers, and idempotency.
• Build and operate services on AWS, selecting containers, serverless, or other compute options based on workload requirements.
• Support content ingestion, processing, packaging, and delivery workflows for live and on-demand media.
• Improve observability through metrics, logs, distributed tracing, alerting, and service level objectives.
• Build security into services using authentication, role-based access, secrets management, and secure communication.
• Guide technical decisions and help resolve complex production issues across services.

Required Experience

• Advanced, hands-on C#/.NET experience building and operating production backend platforms, including APIs, background processing, and asynchronous workflows.
• Experience with microservices at meaningful scale, including independently deployed services, event-driven design, queues, failure handling, and production observability.
• Strong AWS experience building and operating production systems using services such as ECS/Fargate, EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, S3, CloudFront, IAM, or CloudWatch.
• Sound judgment about serverless and container-based architecture, including performance, concurrency, runtime limits, operational needs, and cost.
• Experience with a relational database such as SQL Server or PostgreSQL, a NoSQL database, and a cache such as Redis.
• Hands-on experience with OAuth 2.0 or OIDC, JWT, role-based access control, secrets management, Docker, and CI/CD.
• Experience managing AWS infrastructure through Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.

Strongly Preferred

• Production experience with Kafka or a comparable event streaming platform.
• Kubernetes experience in addition to strong AWS platform experience.
• Experience with high-throughput systems, media workflows, job orchestration, or multi-tenant SaaS.
• A record of improving the cost, reliability, or performance of an existing AWS platform.
• For Principal-level candidates, experience setting architecture for a substantial backend domain.

Nice to Have

• Snowflake or analytics pipeline experience.
• Familiarity with streaming, transcoding, or CDN technology.
• Go experience.
