Sr Backend Java Developer

Mandatory Qualifications:

1. Level III- More than seven (7) years of experience working on complex projects with 2 or more years in a leadership role as a Developer
2. More than 7 years of experience as a Java developer, including experience in Java/J2EE and object-oriented programming (OOP) principles, design patterns, and SOLID principles.
3. At least six months of experience in an Integrated Eligibility System within a Health and Human Services programs such as PA, TA, SNAP, HEAP, Fair Hearings, Child Support, etc.

Desirable Qualifications:

1. More than 7 years of proven experience designing, building, and maintaining microservices architectures and RESTful APIs. More than 7 years of experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL) and SQL, as well as experience with NoSQL databases.
2. More than 7 years of experience with testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Mockito) and proficiency with build tools like Maven or Gradle.
3. More than 7 years of experience with major cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including an understanding of containerization with Docker and Kubernetes.
4. More than 7 years of experience with DevOps principles and experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
5. More than 7 years of experience with popular frameworks, particularly Spring (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security) and ORM technologies like Hibernate or JPA.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and implement complex, high-volume, low-latency Java applications.
• Analyze current systems to determine technical requirements and develop software solutions that align with business goals.
• Develop scalable and high-performance Java applications for enterprise-level systems.
• Contribute to both front-end and back-end application development.
• Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to define application objectives, features, and functionality.
• Participate in all stages of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), from initial analysis through deployment and maintenance.
• Collaborate with architects, testers, business analysts, and senior technical leads to implement high-quality code.
• Identify and resolve immediate and potential technical issues, including complex production issues such as memory leaks and network failures.
• Recommend upgrades and changes to existing Java infrastructure to improve functionality, performance, and system longevity.
• Collaborate on the deployment of new features and monitor successful integration and system stability.
• Create and maintain detailed technical and user support documentation.
• Apply Agile/Scrum practices while working on cross-functional development teams.
• Ensure developed solutions meet project requirements and applicable state and federal compliance standards.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and development best practices.
• Introduce applicable technology and process innovations.
• Support modernization of the New York State Integrated Eligibility System (IES).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Attend monthly in-person meetings at the Albany office when approved for 100% remote work.
• Be available for major milestone meetings as needed.
