Job Description

Description
We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join a high-tech engineering team in Clearwater, Florida. This position focuses on circuit card and electronic board design for aerospace-related applications, combining hands-on engineering analysis with documentation and layout development. The role also involves diagnosing hardware issues, supporting component lifecycle decisions, and working within regulated design standards. This is a largely independent position with regular collaboration across internal teams and external suppliers.

Responsibilities

Create and refine electronic board designs, including schematic development, card layout definition, and supporting design documentation for aerospace hardware. Interpret technical requirements and translate customer needs into practical electrical design solutions that align with program objectives. Investigate failures at the circuit board and component level to identify root causes and distinguish hardware-related issues.

Evaluate electronic parts for availability and lifecycle risk, and recommend alternate or replacement components when obsolescence affects existing designs. Apply industry and regulatory design frameworks, including DO-178C and DO-254 considerations, during development and documentation activities. Use design tools such as Altium Designer to support schematic capture, board-level design work, and engineering updates. Partner with suppliers as needed to clarify technical details, review component options, and support material selection.

Split time between desk-based design work and production floor support to assess hardware performance and resolve engineering concerns. Requirements
At least 7 years of experience in board-level electrical design, preferably in aerospace or a closely related electronics environment. Strong background in circuit card assemblies, electronic circuits, and printed circuit board design principles. Demonstrated ability to read, develop, and review electrical schematics and board layouts. Experience troubleshooting circuit board hardware and performing structured root cause analysis.

Familiarity with component obsolescence management and identifying suitable alternate parts. Working knowledge of Altium Designer or similar electronic design automation software. Understanding of aerospace regulatory expectations and design assurance standards such as DO-178C and DO-254. Comfortable working independently in a role without direct reports and communicating with suppliers when needed. Technology Doesn't Change the World, People Do.
