Automation Engineer

Marathon Petroleum is seeking an Automation Engineer to design, implement, and support control systems across refining and energy operations. You will develop and optimize PLC/DCS/SCADA solutions, integrate instrumentation and safety systems, and ensure reliable, safe plant performance in a highly regulated environment. Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and project teams to troubleshoot issues, drive automation upgrades, and support capital projects. Leverage data to improve efficiency, uphold rigorous safety and environmental standards, and contribute to continuous improvement in a performance-driven culture.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and maintain PLC, DCS, and SCADA control systems for refining and energy operations.
• Integrate instrumentation, safety, and control systems to ensure safe, reliable plant performance.
• Troubleshoot automation issues and provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams.
• Support and execute automation scope on capital and reliability projects.
• Analyze operational data to improve efficiency, reliability, and compliance.
• Develop and maintain control system documentation, standards, and procedures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in automation solutions.
