Software Engineer - Remote

Aptask Global Workforce (AGW) is seeking a Software Engineer - Remote position with a Leading Technology Firm located in Menlo Park, CA. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity.

We are looking for a software engineer to help build and evaluate CUA (Computer Use Agents) models trained to operate real software and complete computer-based tasks. The successful candidate will own complex, long-running technical workflows from end to end, including implementation, validation, and documentation. You will also design and maintain the tasks, benchmarks, and test suites that measure CUA capability as the underlying models and infrastructure evolve.

Responsibilities:

• Own complex, long-running technical workflows end to end, including implementation, validation, documentation, and follow-through
• Design and maintain tasks, benchmarks, and test suites to measure CUA capability
• Investigate discrepancies across code, configuration, infrastructure, and results to turn ambiguous findings into reproducible conclusions
• Maintain extremely high standards for code quality, write tests, and use deployment strategies like canary releases and rollbacks
• Provide and receive blunt, direct feedback on code quality and implementation

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree is required
• Minimum 2 years of experience with Python, with high proficiency
• Proficient in one or more of the following languages: Rust, Python, or TypeScript
• Familiar with at least one AI coding assistant (e.g., Claude Code, Codex or Cursor) with developed best practices for its use
• Strong debugging and experimental discipline
• Strong engineering background, with experience in AI model training
• Experience with ML evaluation, distributed systems, developer infrastructure, or large-scale testing
• Experience maintaining benchmarks or test suites while underlying models, APIs, and infrastructure evolve

Desired skills:

• Experience in server-side or infrastructure development, with a track record of building highly available and stable systems
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience with a personally maintained open-source project
• Experience with Python/torch

Pay range: up to $73.20 per hour
