Job Description

About Indus

Indus is building the easiest way for people living overseas to invest in India.

Through the Indus app, investors in Australia and New Zealand can access 500+ Indian mutual funds without needing an Indian bank account.

We are backed by Zerodha and operate at the intersection of finance, technology, culture and the global Indian identity. We are looking for an exceptional writer who can turn that intersection into content people genuinely want to read, watch, save and share.

The Role

We are looking for a writer first.

Someone who can find an interesting idea, develop a sharp point of view and express it clearly, whether that becomes a video script, carousel, campaign, founder post, newsletter, headline or culturally relevant social post.

You will help shape how Indus speaks and what the brand talks about.

The subject matter will range from investing, markets and India's growth to migration, identity, ambition and the everyday lives of Indians overseas. Your job will be to make these topics clear, intelligent and engaging without making them feel like textbook finance content.

This is not a traditional social media management role. You will not be judged by how many posts you schedule. You will be judged by the quality of the ideas, writing and creative work you help put into the world.

You do not need to be a designer, but you should have a strong visual eye. You should understand how words, layouts, imagery, typography, pacing and platform behaviour come together to make content work.

What You'll Own
Writing and editorial
  • Write scripts, carousels, captions, newsletters, founder posts, threads, landing-page copy and campaign concepts.
  • Turn complex topics such as mutual funds, taxation, currency depreciation and economic policy into content that is easy to understand.
  • Develop strong hooks, headlines and narratives that earn attention without resorting to clickbait.
  • Find the human story behind financial and economic developments.
  • Edit and improve content produced by founders, subject-matter experts and other members of the team.
  • Maintain a consistently high standard of clarity, accuracy and originality.

Ideas and creative development
  • Identify interesting observations, stories and conversations that Indus can turn into content.
  • Create original, repeatable formats and editorial series for the brand.
  • Move comfortably between serious financial education, timely commentary, culturally relevant humour and larger brand campaigns.
  • Develop creative briefs and work closely with designers and video editors to bring ideas to life.
  • Give clear, thoughtful feedback on layouts, visuals, pacing and overall presentation.
  • Ensure that the final execution is as strong as the original idea.

Social-native storytelling

Understand how writing needs to change across Instagram, LinkedIn, X, newsletters and community channels.

  • Know how to structure a carousel, script a short-form video and write a founder post without making them all sound the same.
  • Stay informed about how people consume, discuss and share content online.
  • Recognise when Indus should respond quickly to a moment-and when the brand should stay out of the conversation.
  • Help content feel native to each platform without diluting the Indus voice.

News, markets and cultural relevance
  • Stay closely informed about India's economy, financial markets and major developments affecting Indians in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Connect economic news with everyday human behaviour and the experiences of the Indian diaspora.
  • Identify announcements, market movements and cultural moments that could become useful or interesting content.
  • Develop the judgement to distinguish a meaningful story from temporary internet noise.
  • Work with internal experts to ensure that financial content is accurate and compliant.

Brand building
  • Help define and strengthen the Indus tone of voice.
  • Make every piece of communication feel recognisably like Indus.
  • Protect the brand from becoming generic, overly corporate or indistinguishable from AI-generated financial content.
  • Build a consistent editorial language across organic social, paid campaigns, newsletters and founder-led communication.
  • Help Indus feel credible and premium while remaining energetic, modern and human.

What We're Looking For

Exceptional writing and storytelling ability. This is non-negotiable.

  • The ability to find an original angle rather than simply rewrite information.
  • A strong understanding of how social content earns attention.
  • A keen eye for design, visual hierarchy and creative execution.
  • An interest in investing, economics, current affairs and the Indian diaspora.
  • Strong research skills and an instinct for accuracy.
  • The ability to explain complicated ideas in plain, natural language.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Basic video editing skills, or enough understanding of video to brief and collaborate effectively with an editor.
  • Strong taste and clear opinions about what makes content feel credible, premium and culturally relevant.

You'll Be a Strong Fit If

You consider yourself a writer before you consider yourself a social media manager.

  • You regularly save interesting headlines, ads, films, posts, formats, visual references and pieces of writing.
  • You can take a dry financial announcement and find the story people will actually care about.
  • You can explain a complicated idea without making it sound simplistic or patronising.
  • You understand that good social content begins with a strong idea, not a trending audio track.
  • You know how to collaborate with designers and can articulate why a creative execution is or is not working.
  • You are comfortable starting with a blank page.
  • You can move quickly without lowering the quality of your thinking.
  • You care more about making something memorable than filling a content calendar.

This Role Is Probably Not for You If

Your main experience is scheduling posts, managing calendars and preparing social media reports.

  • You rely heavily on AI-generated first drafts without bringing your own thinking or voice.
  • You need detailed instructions before you can develop an idea.
  • You are uncomfortable writing about finance, markets or economic news.
  • Your default approach is to imitate what another fintech brand is doing.
  • You measure content quality primarily by publishing frequency.
  • You do not enjoy rewriting, editing and refining work until it is genuinely strong.
What Success Looks Like

Within your first six months:

  • Indus has a distinctive and consistent written voice.
  • The brand is producing original, repeatable content formats.
  • Complex financial topics feel clearer and more relevant to our audience.
  • Content responds more intelligently to news, markets and cultural moments.
  • The standard of writing and creative execution has improved across every channel.
  • Organic reach, engagement and follower quality are growing.
  • Social and editorial content are contributing to customer education, trust and acquisition.
  • The wider team sees the content function as a source of ideas, insight and brand direction-not simply a distribution channel.

Experience

We are open to candidates from writing, journalism, advertising, editorial, brand, finance, entertainment and social media backgrounds.

Approximately two to four years of relevant experience is preferred, but the quality of your thinking, writing and portfolio will matter considerably more than the number of years on your résumé.

Please apply with examples of work that demonstrate how you think and write. These could include scripts, articles, campaigns, social posts, newsletters, brand work, personal projects or creative concepts.
