Nutanix VmWare Administrator

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Systems Engineer with strong technical expertise in server infrastructure, virtualization, storage, networking, and systems administration. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Nutanix AHV, VMware, Windows and Linux environments, including hypervisor migrations, Nutanix cluster deployments, system monitoring, disaster recovery, patch management, and infrastructure troubleshooting.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to customer service, safety, operational excellence, and technical problem-solving. This role requires excellent communication and documentation skills, the ability to manage multiple assignments, and flexibility to provide off-hours/on-call support and travel to various company locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support Windows Server and Linux operating systems, including user administration, file systems, software, and system services.
• Manage and troubleshoot server infrastructure, storage systems, and various RAID configurations.
• Perform Active Directory administration, including domain backup and recovery, Group Policy (GPO) configuration, and related troubleshooting.
• Plan and execute Nutanix hypervisor migrations following industry best practices.
• Perform VMware ESXi/Hypervisor migrations to Nutanix AHV, including planning, execution, validation, and troubleshooting.
• Deploy, configure, and support Nutanix clusters.
• Monitor system health, availability, capacity, and performance.
• Analyze system performance statistics to identify bottlenecks and lead infrastructure optimization efforts.
• Troubleshoot fundamental networking technologies and issues involving DHCP, DNS, routing, firewalls, and connectivity.
• Apply security best practices involving ACLs, encryption, access controls, and infrastructure security.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Ksh, Perl, or similar scripting languages.
• Plan and execute disaster recovery activities, including backup and restoration of systems, applications, and data.
• Perform operating system, hypervisor, software, and firmware patching and upgrades.
• Support infrastructure baselining and monitoring activities, including Industrial Defender where applicable.
• Perform dark-site patching of Nutanix AHV hypervisors and components, as well as other hypervisor platforms.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, system procedures, solutions, and system design documentation.
• Support infrastructure environments while maintaining a strong safety-first mindset.
• Collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and customers to resolve infrastructure issues.
• Respond to critical incidents, emergencies, scheduled maintenance, and other infrastructure-related activities outside normal business hours.
• Travel to various company-supported locations when required.
• Safely lift, transport, and install server and other IT infrastructure equipment when necessary.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of IT infrastructure/support experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Nutanix AHV.
• In-depth knowledge of Nutanix hypervisor migration best practices.
• Hands-on experience migrating VMware workloads to Nutanix AHV.
• Experience with Nutanix cluster deployment and configuration.
• Strong experience administering Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
• Experience with Active Directory, GPO, domain backup/recovery, and user administration.
• Understanding of server hardware, storage technologies, and RAID configurations.
• Working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls, and fundamental networking concepts.
• Understanding of infrastructure security concepts, including ACLs and encryption.
• Scripting/automation experience with PowerShell, Bash, Ksh, Perl, or similar scripting languages.
• Experience with system monitoring, performance analysis, capacity planning, and optimization.
• Experience with backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes.
• Experience with operating system, software, hypervisor, and firmware patching.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to create clear technical documentation and system design documentation.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Industrial Defender and infrastructure/system baselining.
• Experience with dark-site/offline patching of Nutanix AHV, Nutanix components, and other hypervisors.
• Knowledge of NERC CIP compliance and its impact on data center infrastructure, security, operations, and best practices.
• Experience supporting infrastructure in critical infrastructure, utilities, energy, or industrial environments.
