An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a specialist engineering business supporting major projects across the energy sector.

Working on a diverse range of applications including renewable energy, hydrogen, carbon capture, waste-to-energy and conventional power generation, you'll play a key role in the design, analysis and layout of piping systems, skids and associated mechanical equipment.

This role would suit an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a background in piping design, pipe stress analysis, or both, who is looking to take ownership of technically challenging projects while developing their career within a growing and innovative organisation.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll support projects from concept through to delivery, collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and working closely with customers and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop piping layouts and routing solutions for industrial and energy-sector facilities.
• Produce and review 3D models, GA drawings and isometric drawings.
• Carry out pipe stress and flexibility analysis, including support design and equipment load assessments.
• Perform detailed engineering calculations relating to piping systems, skids and mechanical equipment.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards and regulations.
• Review customer specifications, P&IDs and technical documentation.
• Work closely with CAD and drafting teams to deliver high-quality engineering documentation.
• Support design reviews and provide technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
• Drive continuous improvement and engineering best practices.

Required Experience

Essential

• Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 6+ years' mechanical design experience for Senior Engineer level.
• Experience in piping design and layout and/or pipe stress analysis within industrial, process plant or energy environments.
• Experience using software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, AVEVA E3D, CAESAR II or similar.
• Working knowledge of piping design codes including ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, EN 13480 or PED.
• Strong understanding of piping systems, supports and mechanical engineering principles.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication and technical reporting skills.

Desirable

• Experience across both piping layout and pipe stress analysis.
• Knowledge of pressure vessels and heat exchangers.
• Experience with FEA and related engineering analysis tools.
• Familiarity with Navisworks, PV Elite or NozzlePRO.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
