Controls & Automation Technician

If you are a Controls & Automation Technician with experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment, electrical systems, and electro-mechanical machinery, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in Farmington Hills, MI, you will be responsible for the setup, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and operational verification of automated welding machines and tooling. You will assemble, test, and troubleshoot equipment while working with PLC controls, electrical and mechanical systems, and tooling integration. You will also work with cross-functional teams to communicate with and host customers.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

• Assemble machinery and equipment based on technical drawings and specifications.
• Conduct initial testing and commissioning of new equipment to ensure accurate operation. Perform detailed checks and adjustments to ensure equipment meets operational requirements and specifications.
• Fit, assemble, and make minor modifications to parts and tooling components using hand tools, mills, and other equipment to attain successful welded assemblies. Verify dimensions and alignment using measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks. Perform tooling/machine integration including assembly, wiring, setup, and debugging.
• Perform weld trials and customer part runs to meet customer specifications. This may involve testing and quality measurements.
• Provide on-site and remote technical support during the commissioning phase. Serve as a technical resource for issues that arise during assembly and commissioning.
• Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment, electrical controls, sensors, actuators, and other electro-mechanical components with support from Branson engineering as needed.
• Ensure compliance with all safety laws and company policies related to welding and machining operations. Identify and address safety hazards, implement corrective actions, and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
• Perform other duties assigned by supervisor or manager.

For This Role, You Will Need:

• High School diploma or GED
• 2+ years of experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled, automated, or electro-mechanical equipment
• Strong PLC, electrical, and mechanical troubleshooting skills (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or other transferable provider)
• Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and CAD drawings
• Experience with machine assembly, integration, commissioning, maintenance, or field service
• Strong problem-solving and customer service skills
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools and software
• Computer literacy (MS Office, Outlook, Excel, Word)
• Willingness and ability to travel, including internationally up to 10% of the time
• Able to lift and transport materials and tools weighing up to 50 pounds
• Legal authorization to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

• Associate or Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related field
• Technical certification in electrical, controls, automation, mechanical, or related field
• Experience with ultrasonic welding, plastic joining, or welding equipment
• Experience with tooling integration and machine setup
• Working knowledge of ultrasonic welding control circuitry and actuators
• Experience using mills, lathes, grinders, and other machine-shop equipment
