Job description

About the Role

A growing, seed-stage insurtech company is seeking its first product designer to shape AI-powered claims operations software. You will own the user experience from discovery through delivery, helping turn complex workflows into clear, dependable tools for claims professionals and their teams.

What You'll Do

  • Design end-to-end experiences across claims workspaces and dashboards used by operators, team leads, and executives.

  • Use product analytics, heat maps, user research, and customer conversations to identify friction and guide improvements.

  • Partner with product leadership, forward-deployed engineers, and the broader engineering team to translate customer needs into workflows and implementation-ready designs.

  • Design human-in-the-loop AI interactions that show users what an agent did, the sources it used, its reasoning, and where it may be uncertain.

  • Help evolve an early product interface into an enterprise-grade experience as new insurance organizations adopt the platform.

  • Establish design principles and a design system, prototype with AI tools, and measure whether changes reduce user effort.

What We're Looking For

  • Five to eight years of product design experience, with consistent tenures in technology companies and a track record of owning complex UX workflows.

  • Experience as a founding designer or as the first design hire in an early-stage startup.

  • A portfolio demonstrating dense, technical software designed for people who use it throughout the workday.

  • UX-first, data-informed practice, including user research and behavioral analytics, to simplify complex processes.

  • Hands-on prototyping experience with AI coding tools such as Claude or Lovable.

  • Experience with AI and human-in-the-loop products, design systems, or compliance-heavy operational domains such as insurance, claims, or healthcare is valuable.

  • U.S. work authorization is required. Visa transfers are supported, but new visa sponsorship is not available.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary is $170,000 to $220,000 annually. Visa transfers are supported; new visa sponsorship is not available.

Location

On-site, five days a week in New York, New York.
