Job Description

About Scrumconnect Consulting
Scrumconnect Consulting is a multi-award-winning digital consultancy, recognised for delivering impactful technology solutions across UK government departments. Our work has positively influenced the lives of over 40 million UK citizens. With a strong commitment to user-centred design and agile delivery, we build innovative digital services that matter.

Role Overview
We are looking for a Front End Developer who specialises in design systems to help build, maintain and drive adoption of a government design system. You'll create accessible, reusable components that teams across the programme can rely on, and you'll support their rollout through documentation, communication and hands-on adoption help.

This is a Front End specialist role. We want someone who has built or maintained component libraries and cares about accessibility, performance and developer experience.

Location: UK-based, with some travel to Taunton
Contract type: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: £60,000 - £65,000 per annum, plus benefits
Clearance: BPSS required
Start date: ASAP

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a government-standard component library and design system
  • Audit and remediate components to WCAG 2.2 AA
  • Develop Front End components in the design system's existing stack, packaged and versioned for reuse
  • Work with designers using Figma (including Dev Mode and Figma Make) to turn designs into production components
  • Support change, communications and adoption activity for design system rollout across delivery teams
  • Write and maintain automated tests, with component testing through Storybook and Chromatic
  • Maintain automated build, test and deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps and YAML
  • Maintain documentation sites and release notes, including migration guides for breaking changes

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience building or maintaining government design systems or component libraries, not just consuming them
  • Strong experience auditing and remediating to WCAG 2.2 AA, including the tools and methods used
  • Strong Front End skills in JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML and CSS, with React and/or Angular
  • Experience with Figma Dev Mode/Figma Make
  • Experience supporting change, communications and adoption for a design system or similar shared product
  • Experience writing code that calls APIs
  • Experience with Azure DevOps and YAML pipelines
  • Experience writing test scripts and building automated build and test pipelines
  • Fluent English and clear written and verbal communication
  • Experience with DAST tooling

Desirable

  • Web components, Storybook and npm packaging
  • Theming and re-skinning components, including design tokens and CSS architecture
  • Responsive design across desktop, tablet and mobile
  • Semantic versioning, with breaking-change and migration guidance
  • Performance optimisation for low-bandwidth users, including asset and icon-set optimisation
  • Experience building documentation sites
